If you've been thinking about selling your handmade craft creations and have come to realize that eBay isn't for you, but you think that Etsy might be worth looking into, take a look at 5pm (EST) tonight. Go to the site, (you may need to sign up, but there's never a fee to be a member)click on the "community" link, then click on the Virtual Labs link and find the vitual room holding the Newbie Chat. Many of the questions a person thinking about selling on Etsy/or new sellers may have will be answered with explanations tonight. Etsy holds a couple of these Newbie sessions each week and probably will share many links to helpful threads for people just starting or those thinking about starting a shop on Etsy. Check it out if you have a chance!

Etsy always seemed interesting to me but I just don't seem to get the sales over there. I just don't think Esty is well known enough to compete with ebay still.

eBay and Etsy somewhat the same and yet different. eBay is an auction site, while Etsy allows a seller to have a store where they have everything at fixed prices. I have found I can list my items on eBay and have them sell for as little as 99 cents, not sell at all or receive a few bids and sell the item for less than I receive on Etsy. I think the difference is the people that frequent the two sites. On Etsy, the members that go there know they will be buying something nice and are prepared to pay for it. On eBay people go there looking for bargains and they really aren't looking to pay what a handmade item is really worth. Etsy has well over one million members worldwide and less than 170,000 of them are sellers. (there are 170,000 shops listed on Etsy, but thousands of them are empty) The way to be successful on Etsy is to promote using their forums. It's essential to anyone's Etsy success. Many sellers also promote using social networking sites such as myLot, or Facebook, myspace, etc You need to drive traffic to your site to make Etsy worthwhile. On eBay, I have trouble selling items for 25% of what I get for the item on Etsy! I listed a bracelet on eBay for $4.99 and it received zero bids... two times! The same bracelet was listed on Etsy for $21 and sold within 8 weeks. Cheaper fees, free shops, the ability to promote my work, with 4 months to sell a listing and I get my asking price when it sells!! Plus I get 5 free pictures... Etsy makes it very easy for me to sell my handmade at my price. Check out the newbie session tomorrow (I think it's at 2 or 3 pm EST)I think there's no better place to sell my handmade jewelry than Etsy.com. Thanks for responding!

I can't make today's session, but I think there's another tomorrow and I 'll try to stop in on that one. I'm always hoping to hear something new or something I forgot about. Never know when the next sale is coming! Good Luck and thanks for responding!
