Would you invent stories just to save someone from being punished?

When we love someone we always want him to be safe specially from punishment. Say for example our child has done something wrong and we don't want him punished by his father, we sometimes invent stories just to avoid his being punished.
I am referring to mistakes that aren't serious. Like breaking the vase or simple wrongs done by a child, a brother or a sister. I don't tell a lie and I hate making up stories but if it will save one from being punished then I have to invent a story to save my sibling or child from punishment.
I know it's wrong but if it is a slight mistake that could be covered up I won't be seeing someone punished for it.

hi!
uh...yes i would for the people i know who doesn't deserve the punishment. am not talking about crime or anything hideous. maybe a little white lie just to save your little brother from being punished for something accidental.
i've done this for a lot of times. after saving his butt, i'd torture him for small favors. ehehe.
seriously though, probably if it's something that a person will learn about, i'd do it. but if it's gonna be a chronic situation, i won't.
sometimes i lie for friends...just to cover up something. but if am doing it to for a bigger lie, i guess i should stop. and it saddens me when am the one stuck in a rut.
