Have you recently quit smoking? What did you do?

Smoking is a bad habit, and unfortunately I'm one of them that has taken on that habit. I want to quit smoking, but I don't feel the need to quit smoking, if that makes any sense? Plus, I'm super worried about gaining more weight when I'm actually trying to lose. Should I do them step at a time? Any recommendations?

I smoke too! tried to quit a few times but failed, started again whenever I go clubbing or saw someone smoke. I think the best way is to stay away from people that smoke and eat mint whenever you craved. But I enjoy smoking so I wont quit for now... just enjoy my life with my ciggy!

It's funny - we don't smoke in our house so that we are away from the smell and smoke less. It has worked, but we all still smoke. And you're right, the best way to quit is to stay away from people that smoke, because that's what started me up everytime I quit. When people ask me why I haven't quit my reply is "I'm going to die someday anyway, might as well do the things I enjoy doing".

Haha, thanks for the comment. I don't want to gain is the thing. Smoking 2 packs a day - how can you smoke that much? LOL. Well good luck to you.

smoking - quitting smoking for your all time over health to save your life
I quit 14 years ago.And I did put on over 150 pds but lost 22 pds before and here recently lost 10pds.You have to quit smoking though for your over all life.Your lungs clear up after 6 mos and you start to feel better and breathe better.

i actully started chewing gum. just regular sugarfree trident. every time i wanted cig. i poped in a peice of gum. alos i didn't throw away my pack of cig. i kept one pack i a drawer i never used in the kitchen not seeing them but knowing they were there and that I was making the choice and the choice wasn't being made for me made it a lot easier to quit!

I quit smoking, cold turkey, over 29 years ago when I found I was pregnant with my first child. I haven't smoked since. My sister-in-law used the patch. Of course you are worried about weight gain. Your metabolism will drop a bit. Exercise, get that heart rate up. Take up a hobby where you will use your hands. That hand to mouth thing that you did while smoking tends to be passed on to filling your mouth. Keep your hands busy. Good luck! : )

If I found out I was pregnant I definitely would quit and would have no problem quitting cold turkey because I would have a reason to quit. Did the patch work for your sister-in-law?

I'm in the same position as you,I would love to quit smoking. Are there any help lines you can call? In Australia we have the quit helpline.Mind you they hassle you alot! always ringing to see if you have had any smokes.I have tried cold turkey and it didn't work for me.I also tried hypnotherapy, that did work.I quit for 8 mounths, but then silly me,I thought having one smoke wouldn't hurt.Long story short,I am smoking again D'oh

I think the support of a significant other is really important. Such as me when I quit and I was grumpy and my hubby threw a pack at me and I asked what that was for and he told me to smoke them because I was grumpy. Well, if I have them on me, I'm going to smoke them. Or we'd go outside and he's smoke and blow it in my face....not very supportive.

Non-Smoker - This is an encouragement to the responder and he/she is not a smoker. I appreciate those types of people, especially considering I don't have the will power to quit.
I am very pleased to hear that you have never smoked. I'm sure from reading the other comments you can see why starting smoking is not a good idea. I'm sure you are aware of the facts and figures what smoking can do to you. Just keep this in mind, and never pick a cig up.:)
