First Time School's Closed for Columbus Day

Every year, my fellow classmates and I wondered the same thing. Why do we never get out for Columbus day?all the banks and government buildings close. Just last week someone in class said that we didnt have school on Monday. I was a little confused and I asked "why?." He said because of Columbus day. And I was like "are you kidding me?" and he was like no. and I said "this is the first time we've been out for columbus day." Have you ever been out of school for Columbus day?

I forgot college students don't get the day off. My brother's in college and he went to school yesterday. aww thats horrible. but in a way its not because college students don't have to go to school everyday like us highschoolers. Maybe you can start a petition.

I don't know why some schools close for Columbus Day and some don't. They don't here. Columbus Day is a controversial holiday, but I really don't think that's the reason. I imagine when they look at the school calendar and work it out, they can't have all the "Monday holidays" off or else it would push the school year too far into the summer, or something.

Yeah it would push the school year far into the summer. I dont know if Im still on topic though but a couple years back during hurricane season we were out for school for a couple of days and it wasn't even stormy outside. It was a regular day. Then we found out they were adding days to our school year because of that. I remember like a year ago they closed down schools in my county just to save on gas. I was complaining at the time.
