Theft and Vangalism of Yard Signs!

I don't know if this is normal for a campaign season or if this year is worse, but there seems to be a major increase in political yard sign theft/vandalism this time.
Since we all have the right to defend our property, I think it's time we did something about these infantile criminals.
So let me here your ideas. What do you, or would you recommend we put on our yard signs to thwart these people who apparently care more about their budding life of crime than eveyone else's Constitutional rights.
For me, the answer includes going Green (wouldn't the greenies be proud of me?). Jalapeno pepper juice rubbed liberally all over the sign, edges and legs.
Its my hope that if anyone messes with my sign, their eyes will burn with the glory of their victory over free speach.
Any suggestions?

They should be foiund and prosecuted to the full extent of the law as far as damage to property, or theft. This is happening a lot this election year. At least in my neighborhood it is. It see3ms to be mostly the Republican signs that are destroyed and or stolen. I don't think any particular saying or phrase would stop the thefts and or damage actually.

today is a federal election here in canada and not only have they stooped to steal signs here in a major city, but they have also cut break lines and spray painted houses of supporters of a certain party. not only should the perpetrators be changed with vandelism, they should be charged with attempted murder!

Well I can't do yard signs because we rent. But I've thought about getting bumper stickers or magnets. But I'm afraid to do anything like that because I'm afraid some nutjob will key my car.
That's a good idea with the jalapeno pepper juice.

I don't think this is anything new and it happened a lot last election when Bush ran. I do think it seems to be aimed at the Republicans mostly though. Democrats seem to be younger and more reckless, I think. But that's only my opinion.
I thought of putting out some signs, but then I didn't want any trouble. I know I tend to look at people with Obama/Biden bumper stickers on their car as if they're crazy. I would never try to rip it off their car or do anything to their property but I sure give them "the look". lol

ParaTed,
When I was a kid, we live mostly in what would be called nowdays rural. We were surrounded by many pastures with cattle and other livestock. Consequently there were many "breakouts" by this livestock through the three and four strand barbed wire fences, except one small farm. By accident one day I found out just why this farmers livestock refused to venture close to the fence and I must say, pun intended, it was a very shocking experience! For anyone who has never grabbed a strand of wire fence with a non-lethal electrical charge going throught it, take it from me, it's not something you want to put on your list of "things to do before Jesus comes"!
So, ParaTed, I believe I would like to rig my sign with exactly that ! I believe my signs would be the least touched in town!

I love your idea. I think maybe we could also use leg hold traps. I don't think they should be used on animals but for vandals I think they are great. We are having an election in Canada today and I have noticed for the last month or so that every weekend the drunks walk home destroying signs then the next day along come the campaign workers and put up new ones. The whole thing seems stupid to me. Never once has a sign on someone's lawn swayed my vote. I can't see where they do help but to each their own I guess.
