Has anyone lost money big time in the stock market lately?

I don't have any specific funds that i invest in i just let my 401k do the investing for me. But my brother has lost over $50,000 in his stocks because he apparently didn't pull out in time. I don't think anyone saw this coming but have you or someone you know lost a lot of money on the stock market?

Your brother should leave the stocks in. Providing the company(ies) still exist they will climb again in stocks. The stock market is at a "5 year low" on it's normal up and down cycle. If stocks were this bad only five years ago then just wait a few years and they'll go back up.

I only have my 401k,and the last quarter i lost a bit of money.
I might have to change a few things.
