How long do you keep left overs?

In my house, I don't really have left overs. I don't make enough food at one time for left overs. But I do prepare food late night, for use the next day. And, then warm up the food for use, as needed. That works for me. Essentially it's like planned left overs. And, if I do have any left overs from that, I don't usually keep them more than a day. They just don't taste fresh after that. How long do you keep left overs in your fridge?

My wife loves cold leftover pizza. This is one food I hate leftover and or reheated for some reason. I think the cheese gets too gummy like after sitting in the fridge overnight. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I always make enough food for leftovers, so I can pack it for my husband to take to work. Usually he takes what I make for lunch one day, the following night. If I notice that there are too many leftovers for just my husband, I will sometimes heat something up for my toddler and I to eat at night, instead of cooking. We rarely throw left overs away. I try really hard to make sure they are used up. People ask how we afford the things we have, one way is to not waste things.

Waste not! Want not! It's so true. Being frugal about food is a good value to possess. However, I do the opposite and simply don't cook up enough food to waste. It works out too.

Sadly I have to say I keep leftovers till they start to grow. It drives my hubby isae and I know its bad but I hate cleaning the fridge. I have no tupperware left due to mold as I wont clean them I just throw them away.

I agree that they don't taste fresh after a day. I would prefer to throw them out if they haven't been eaten by then, but my finances kind of guilt me into saving them for at least three days. UNLESS, it has lettuce in it. Lettuce wilts so quickly and it grosses me out so bad if it does that. So if it has lettuce in it, I might as well throw it out. I can't stand to think about eating it.

They don't usually stay leftovers for long b/c I usually heat them up for Hubby the next day for lunch. If I don't they end up shoved to the back of the fridge and forgotten. If it's something that we've made lots of and will take more than a couple days to finish up then I freeze some of it for another time. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

I don't usually put my leftovers in the fridge anymore because they usually sit there for a couple days and then they get put down the garburator. So now what I do is freeze my leftovers into meal sizes so I have something quick I can take out of the freezer and put in the microwave to heat. It works for me but not for my daughter. She is 25 years old and we share an apartment together and she will not eat leftovers ever, whether they sat in the fridge or from the freezer. She says the food is no good anymore if it is leftovers. That is her opinion and that is okay as we all have our own opinions. I can't seem to cook for just two anymore. I always cook way too much and always have leftovers so if I didn't freeze them I would be wasting a lot of money and a lot of good food. If I don't freeze the leftovers I might eat some the next day but after that I would throw it away as it will just sit there and not get eaten and just go bad.

I keep leftovers for about a day. I try to eat them up; it's harder because my husband doesn't really like leftovers. What we often do is take some of the food before we eat it and freeze it into individual portions for my husband's lunches; he'll eat these.

Just recently have I started to eat leftovers actually. Prior I would tooss out leftovers after eating. It is just dad and I for the most meals here so not a lot is cooked anyhow. But now I've started making "full" sized meals and save the leftovers. I save them till they are either eaten or moldy. Ewww! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Leftovers sometimes spend way too much time at my house. We do make a bit more than needed but we try to reuse it later for lunches and snacks and what not. However, sometimes that food never gets eaten so it can spend a few weeks in the fridge before someone realizes that it needs to be thrown out.

Hi beauty, here, we can't avoid to cook more than what we need for one meal and end up having left overs and I will make sure it will only stay in less than 3 days! it will be fine if I am the one cooking but most of the time when hubby does, he will cook a lot!

I on't keep them at all. Leftovers never taste as good as the original thing. Although if I had a family I might seeing as there would probably be a good bit of that.

I will keep them for the next day and then if they aren't used up then I will throw them as like you said it doesn't taste fresh. It also depends what the leftover is. i like the idea of 'planned leftovers', I dont get home til 9pm sometimes so that could be an idea to ensure I have an evening meal!!!

Usually I will toss stuff that isn't eaten on the 3rd day. It is really rare that they actually last that long in the fridge though. The are generally eaten the next day. I like the idea of preparing food just to be heated the next day. I think I'll have to do that.

Hello, I myself keep them only 1 day, no longer, then I will either give to the dogs so it doesn't go to waste, or if it just has no smell or looks funny, i toss it. it's hard for me to do that, with all the people in the world who have no food. I try to usually cook what I think is enough for my family to eat. this way nothing gets tossed and thrown out and nothing gets put into the fridge. and since doing this, it has worked for me. so far so good. Like you, not more than a day. I prefer cooking just as much as we need (maybe just a little more for days when one is really hungry). Sometimes, I cook at night and that remains for the next day to be heated (especially since I don't have the time in the morning to make a typical Indian breakfast AND lunch). So, I have the previous day's 'leftovers' for lunch because most Indian breakfasts need to be made fresh and served hot. But nothing that's more than a day old is eaten.

I try not to have any either but sometimes I do. Truth be told though if I don't eat it by the next day it usually just doesn't get eaten. About after a week I compost what I can and throw away the rest.

i usually dont keep the left overs for long and if i keep it i think it is mostly for one or maximum 2days and if it remains then i just throw it out. i everytime make sure that i dont cook more food and have to eat it next day or so and like you say even i plan for the leftovers and use it for the next day. but usually i avoid eating leftovera as it develops acidity and also makes us fat and hence to avoid these kind of problems i just avoid leftovers, as it is not good for health. but sometimes i think it is fine.

I usually keep leftover for a day. After that i throw them away. Since only me and my husband will eat those food and i know that it is not advisable anymore to eat leftover if they are 2 days old. Although i dont wanna throw them away since i know there is a lot of people out there who dont have food on there table. Still i cant also take the risk of my health nor my husbands health just because i dont want to waste food.

Since i'm cooking alone and a sadly lazy cook, i always cook meal abundantly and have left overs which i always keep in the fridge. Usually i'll keep it for a day or two. The food surely doesnt taste taste fresh especially fish and chicken. But miraculously, if it is curry, it better to keep inside the fridge maybe for a day. It will taste better, trust me.

i guess the longest time we kept a left over is about two weeks. :) me and my family usually go out to eat and most of the time we get left overs from our orders. average time is around 3-5 days. we use them as viands for the other days when cooking seems to be a hassle.
