Does your dog know when you are getting ready to go out?

Our dog cerberus is not the brightest creature but he has learnt to recognise every word and sign or gesture that indicates that his Master is putting on his outdoor shoes and to Cerberus outdoor shoes mean walks. Its got so we now call him Radar O Cerberus because he never fails to know when his Masters shoes are going on. He can be rooms away and no matter how quiet we are he will still hear. Its got to be a game now to see if we can get the shoes on before he comes running.
We cannot even use the word shoes any more. He has learned the word shoes, paw covers and even the short version pc’s. He even knows the difference between going out to dinner shoes and ordinary going shopping shoes. He does not like the good shoes at all. With the ordinary shoes he gets all excited and hopeful until we look at him and say its shopping time.
Does your dog know when you are putting your shoes on? Does he/she know when its walk time? Do you have some signal that he/she responds to?

I think my dog does know when I'm leaving. I look at her and she has a little something in her eye that makes me suspect that she does know or has a feeling that I'm leaving. She's a smart cookie. I've never really doubted that. So that's why I wouldn't be surprised if she knew when I was leaving.

Too funny! Yes ours listens to EVERYTHING. We thought we were through spelling when the kids grew up! LOL! Ours knows "ride" should include him and store means he isnt going. Shoes mean you are going somewhere with or without me! Mail means Jump up, and go see, oh boy I get to walk to the mailbox. They are funny how they know just what you mean!

That sounds like a very good radar and I bet it is a very tough game to try and get your shoes on before he comes running, what kind of dog is it?We have two chihuahuas here at my parents house, and they both like to go outside, and they have learned what the word outside means, and whenever someone says outside, the go running toward the door and stand there, like they are waiting to be let out,or if anyone goes to the door to leave, the are right there at their heels trying to go out as well, and sometimes it is really annoying.

Oh I think he has the best in the business.
As to breed he is a bull mastiff crossed with a ridge back. He is very solid, 39 kilos of muscle but as gentle as a lamb. He can also a real sook if he misses out on a walk even if its raining but we love him. He doesn't like being left home alone but he knows when to be good. The one thing he really can't cope with is being disapproved of.

Oh yes he know more than he lets on alot of the time he knows when we're going out and when we're coming home he sneaks around all the time lying on the bed and the couch and often only gets caught when he's to out of it having a nice nap usually he's up and out of there before we can catch him. He knows when it's the postman (who he hates) as oppose to the courier or next woman. Him and the youngest cat used to double team and raid my fridge of all it's contents lol
