cd/dvd burning

Why writing onto cd/dvd called burning?

I guess each and every industry has its own language which determine a certain products,maybe thats the techconology term which best describe the writing of information on cd's.

My guess would probably be that because of the lasers in the CD-DVD drive, people would assume that the lasers are frying the disk. I don't know really. I guess it's just a catchy name that caught on quickly.
