Recently I read a discussion that dealt with what one would do if given 100k US dollars, and I realised that one dream that was always in the back of my mind was: Moving into a backpack :D By that I mean buying a backpack, filling it with all the bare essentials, add a good video camera on top, and head for the airport. I would leave behind the appartment, day job, city and country and move on to travel the world, documenting my experiences. If everything of value got on my camera, I would look to sell it to National Geographic for a documentary, or I would look into making a movie or anything documenting my travels and what I've seen and experienced. I've done something like this before, I had a perfectly good job in my hometown, working at a bank, had a car, an appartment my family gave me to take care of and live there free, everything comfy really. So one day I just left and moved 500 km away, at the other end of the country :D Now question is, do you or did you had similar tendencies ? Did you do this at a time in your life ? Do you know people who have or are doing it right now ? Stay free. Travel. See the world. Experience life. Peace :)

I'd love to do that at some point in my life. Well, I'd love to go to another country, a remote area where I can do some kind of social work but I haven't gotten to it. Responsibilities and fear of letting go of the comforts of life that I already have seem to be the main reasons why I haven't. But it's still there at the back of my mind. I still want to do it.

I have pretty much lived out of a backpack my entire life. Sometimes my backpack has 4 wheels and is called a moving truck, but still, I don't usually spend a whole lotta time in one place. I would like to be as organized about it as what you have described, but alas, I am usually surrounded by dust clouds and pursued by demons, hehehe.

If I had stayed put until I figured out what to do for money I would still be in my mother's womb!!!

Ah, great to hear, great style that one :) But what do you do for cash ? What's your work ? If I had that figured out, I too would buy a tent and large backpack and start moving :D

Yes, ihave gotten up and just left everythingbehind in life before. I did when I first moved from Ohio to Florida. Than when I moved back. All I had was clothes and memories. I also moved around different places in Ohio and did just that. Also when the last time I moved to Florida about 4 years ago. We took the beds, and a crockpot. That is it. I do enjoy teh freedom to get up and going. But it is hard to do with kids. I know items all can be replaced.

Great way to live, that one, if you're made for it :D You're right though, you can't do that with kids, they bond with friends locally, and you can't just take them away from their home and school, this might burn a few fuses, psychologically speaking :)
