The media needs to stop with this "the sky is falling mentality". Did you read this top news article - http://www.mylot.com/w/newsarticle/1390463.aspx Here's a clip - "Retail sales have now fallen for three consecutive months, the first time that has occurred on government records that go back to 1992. Economists had expected sales to be down in September as a flood of bad news about the financial system and rising unemployment increased consumers' worries." I don't understand WHY they don't publish the good news??? At least report bad news in a positive and encouraging way for crying out loud! People have survived much harder times and have come back even stronger! Here's an example - in my county our large home inventory, which is the cause of the lack of new home construction due to greedy investors, is now at a nine month overage, down significantly from last year. This never made the main stream news. What's up with that?? Anyone who has read my discussion knows how slow work is going for hubby and I so this news was a real blessing! We see some light at the end of the tunnel you know. All that they main stream media has to say is negative, politically or not, always negative. Am I right about the media? are there good things to report? is the sky really falling? Maybe this is just a rant? What do you think????

You know, I agree with you, redkathy. It's not like we don't already know things are bad. We feel the effects everyday. Print something that will give people hope, something that will make them smile a bit. We were just talking about this the other day, it is not the first time in history this has happened. It seems to go in cycles. We live well and prosper for years, then the bottom falls out and we struggle for a few years, then it picks back up and we live well again. The sky is not going to fall, it sags a bit from time to time, but it has always sprung back into place, and it will this time. The media needs to stop with all the gloom and doom.

All they are doing is making things worse, scaring people more and that is more harmful than what it really happening!

I agree. But, you know, by the way people react to the news they hear, you'd think that we don't know how to think for ourselves and look at the past to figure things out. It is just dumb, all around.

I think the media is not helping, with all it's doom and gloom. Surely bey now people at risk have found out how bad it is for themselves. If they haven't faced up to this it's their own fault. I, myself took some time to get my head out of the sand but when I did it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

See they could learn a lesson from you... Maybe the media ought to try being honest and leaving personal views out of the reporting or making darn sure everyone knows it's a personal analysis. That would surely help!

I agree with you, but you also have to look at the fact that these are the toughest times our country has had to face since the Great Depression of the 1930's. Not too many people these days remember how life was during those times. All these bail-outs and things we hear about in the news daily are really only accomplishing two things. First, the bail-outs are going to put a heavier burden on the hard-working American tax-payer. Second, by giving these bail-out to these companies, we are showing them that it is OK to screw up, because good old "Uncle Sam" will rush to the rescue when you are about to fold. You don't see any politicians offering to help the small-business owners nationwide who are losing their businesses and having to go back to work for someone else instead of being able to keep their companies going now do you? All this money the government is handing over to these companies in going to have to be put back into the government coffers some how. How do you think this is going to happen? The middle class and the poor are going to put it back for the government in the form of higher taxes and other things, just the way we always have, because we are powerless to do anything about it. The rich can work the system in their favor, putting the burden on the rest of us who aren't able to do so. Surely, you will not see any of our fine elected officials offering to take a pay-cut in order to help recover any of this money... In the early years of our country, our politicians weren't paid. They were just people with a vision, and they were willing to take time to make it happen. They worked a normal job just like the rest of us, while at the same time, coming together to make our nation what it was back then...a great country. Maybe that is the way we need to start doing things now? Imagine how much money we could save the government each year if we stopped paying the elected officials of our country. Imagine how much more care they would take to implement policies on the working class if they themselves were part of the working class affected by the very policies they enact. I feel this is part of the problem with our politicians. They don't care what policies are passed, because they make enough money not to have to worry about what it will mean for them. You are right about the media always focusing on the bad stuff, but isn't there a long list of bad stuff to choose from right now? I agree that all we seem to hear on the news these days, aside from the election crap of course, is negative things most of the time. Unfortunately, it is usually the negative stuff that affects us more than any of the good stuff you hear reported. I do wish they would quit telling about every damn car accident and stuff that happens every day the way they do here, though. I guess they have to have something to talk about, though, because not too much else worth hearing about happens here in Pensacola. If they didn't talk about car wrecks, big businesses like International Paper wanting to pollute the environment, and crooked politicians and Sheriffs, they wouldn't have a whole lot of other reporting to do. Our local news show could otherwise probably be wrapped up in about five minutes each night. If they didn't talk about the bad stuff on the news, they would likely be out of a job...LOL

Ok that was a really long rant my friend.... JK Now I get to rant back LOL I posted almost your exact words about the feds offering to take a pay cut! Construction workers, foreman, officers of companies are all offering up personal cuts just to keep working! The second thing is the big entitlement programs these wacky politicians come up with... No one is entitled to anything when we have nothing to give. Help yourself for once in your life, I DO! I don't agree with you when you say there is nothing good to report. I don't say do not report the bad stuff, but how about sensationalizing the good stuff? Wouldn't that take some time and effort??? At least make it half and half. Add the state news in there or something... Get creative for crying out load, we all need to smile more and worry less!!!
