Hate does not just happen in politics

A couple days ago, I posted a video about the politics of hate and its ramifications. I asked if this was really the direction we wanted our country to go. This is another discussion along those same lines with an article by a journalist with Scripps News. He emphasizes that hate is taught (or at the very least, encouraged) and that today's politics is reminiscent of the politics of the 60s during the Civil Rights era and the increasing turmoil over the fighting in Vietnam. Here is his article. http://www.shns.com/shns/g_index2.cfm?action=detail&pk=SCHRAM-10-14-08 What do you think of his analysis? Most agreed that those who were featured in the video I posted were far and away over the line of both good taste and common sense. But, do you see his points as well? What is your opinion of the politics of both hate and fear? Does it really have a place?

No, as was pointed out in the article, the politics of hate and fear leads to violence, as it did in several ways back in 1968. I was too young to vote then but I remember the anger and ugliness. During the 1972 campaign I was 17 and worked at the McDonalds in the same shopping center where Gov. Wallace was shot. My father had told me to go directly to work and not stop by that rally because he had heard there was an anti-war protest planned and he was afraid that I would somehow end up being hurt or arrested since I was a young person. I was on duty when several Secret Service agents came in to use the manager's phone, which is when I first learned about the shotting. Because I can remember the rhetoric of hate and fear; against blacks, against whites, against communists secretly living among us, against the government, against our own military, I consider the fostering of those negative & ugly feelings to be extremely unethical and reckless.

devide and rule, ain't it - keep the people hating and fighting each other so they don't join together and threaten the system.

The Scapegoat - The scape goat is as old as time. The angrier and more frustrated the American public, the more likely they are to seek out scapegoats.
I see the increase of hostility as a reaction to the rotten economy and the lack of clarity or honesty in today's politics. Many Americans are not educated enough to put the finger on what is sending them up a wall and strike out in the only way they know how; through hate. The scape goat is as old as time. The angrier and more frustrated the American public, the more likely they are to seek out scapegoats.

Hey Jerzgirl I just posted about the media and their always negative attitude! They give the American people a head ache I think. Well they do me. All this hate, why even report it, sensationalize it, make so darn important! I'm sick of all of it, and it has NO PLACE in my life anyway. Say something good, positive, nice, REAL, or shut up already!
