Question about Nathaniel Hawthorne

I am currently reading the Scarlet Letter. For some reason or another it has slipped through my fingers all these years, so I decided to pick it up. As you probably know, the Scarlet Letter was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Now, a couple years ago I read the Crucible again. I read it in high school but it was required reading and thus I found no enjoyment in it. So the second time I read it was purely for pleasure, and found that I enjoyed it ALOT more. But I digress. My question is this. Does anyone know if there is any relation between the author of SL, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and the character of Judge Nathaniel Hawthorne in the crucible? I do know that the character of Nathaniel Hawthorne in the Crucible was a real person. Was he the same person who wrote the Scarlet Letter???
