Who was your pop culture idol when you were a teen?

My daughter was really into Miley Cyrus for awhile. Lately it's been the Jonas Brothers and anybody from High School Musical. When I was a pre-teen, I liked Scott Baio from Happy Days. And also Leif Garrett. Who were you pining after when you were young? Are you still a fan or do you just laugh at yourself back then? Were there "Tiger Beat" posters on your walls? Did you even send fan letters? Ever get any replies?

Hello rocketj1 Promise you won't laugh? You promise? Promise? Ok well here goes, I used to love Patrick Duffy when he was The Man From Atlantis. I remember being sent to my room for doing something bad and heard the music start for it and realising I was missing I started to really really cry. After about half way through I don't think my mum could stand my howling anymore and said that I could come downstairs and watch the rest but warned me that it was nearly finished but I didn't mind it was better than missing all of it! I too like Scott Baio he probably still is a babe!

Aww thanks! I think if I told anyone that in this country I would never hear the last of it, so keep it to yourself eh?

Oh, I wasn't laughing at all. He has dreamy eyes! I watched that show too and always tried to swim like he did. I recently saw Scott Baio on something. I can't remember what it was. He is sill cute and I think he's one of those guys that kind of always looks like a kid. You have great taste!

He was also pretty famous for "Dallas" here so he would be considered a legitimate heart throb in his day!

well, idol for me means someone i'd admire, and till today its still Janet Jackson. i had a thing for Nsync when the boy bands came out. and if you're talking about PinUps of course I wen boy crazy with pics of Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Brand Renfro and Devon Sawa. all those until nsync came around and i was so obsessed with them. saw all the concerts in the area and went to hotels and spend loads of money to get the presents even making them buss pillows with their name on it. i think i did write letters to them. the only reply i got was an old one from JTT which was like an auto response sort of thing. i even still have a trunk full of Nsync mags and merchandise. I have all their albums except for the greatest hits since i have everything already i didn't need that. But like i said, they all passed. the one i truly admire would still be Janet, but of course i admire others as well. anyone who's confidant and beautiful has got my vote.

haha maybe, i hope someone would want it someday. i put the magazine pictures in plastic sheets and everything. my sister is keeping an eye on that trunk so that my mom doesn't throw it away. but now i do with i'd kept those pillows i made them. some guy back then told me to just have them sign it and sell it on ebay...haha. i might've had some good change by now with that.

I hope you save all your Nsync collection. It could be worth a lot someday! I remember when Janet Jackson was on "Good Times" as a little girl. She was adorable even then. I agree that she is multi-talented! Thanks:)

Oh, where to start rocketj! lol. I was a teenager in the 80's and it was Michael Jackson all the way as the number one pop icon for many of us! We were practically in a frenzy when the clip for Thriller came out! Then we had Patrick Swayze up there with the best of them for Dirty Dancing..... Chuck Norris as the ultimate action hero..... Tony Danza, Gary Coleman and Kirk Cameron from some of the sitcoms like Diff'rent Strokes etc..... When you look at many of these shows and movies today they seem like B-Grade crap, but at the time they were magic!

lol. YES! We bought cassettes back then! lol. Now I wonder what MJ would have said back in the 80's if we had of told him that by 2008 he would be a 50 year old white woman?

I was still in HS in the early, early 80s. So some of these were what I remember too. I had the Thriller album (actually cassette) and played it till it was worn out. Oh, Michael, Michael......... time has not been good to you! Thanks:)

I was a Star Trek fan and a fan of many other shows. I do recall having a little crush on Danny Bonaduce long, long ago. I thought he was more interesting than David Cassidy at the time!

David seemed a little too pretty boy on the show. I'm sure they wrote the character that way, but he was always obsessing about his hair. I actually still like Danny Bonaduce. He keeps making really stupid decisions but I still like him for some reason. I believe he's just really interesting despite all the other junk he's gotten himself into. It's almost like I can't help but like him. Maybe I should see a professional for my problem.

There were lots I think. I can't remember all of them, some of them have left the entertainment industry. But I guess there is one I can mention here. It's The New Kids on the Block, who are not on the block anymore. I had pictures of them from magazines. I did not send any fan mails though. I probably had posters, but thta was about it. Those were the days... Sigh...
