"One Chooses to Be Happy or Sad in Circumstance" Would you agree at all?

This line would imply that no matter what has happened to us, ultimately we are responsible for our state of mind, whether happy or not. Sometimes I believe this but I do not believe it to be universal. Surely ones outlook life and events may determine whether they are satisfied or unhappy at the end of the day, but somethings are just too big for us to change. What do you think?

I have to agree with you that we can only do so much. Life pulls some wild twists that totally change ones way of thinking. We cannot control alot of lifes events and they have a huge bearing on our emotional state. Wheter we like it or not. At least this applies to those of us with feelings and are human.

Sure, some things are just too big for us to change.... so we need to stay focussed only on what we can change. We can change our own thoughts and we can decide to be happy about the little things, until the big things start lining up again.

yeah, many people are saying that everything that happens to you is always connected with what you are thinking. It's either you see it as a bad thing or good thing for you. It's just depends pn how you react to every situation, how you take the blow or what attitude you will adapt to it. They also say that it's all about the law of attraction. That the mind is powerful that whatever you are thinking you can attract it and the universe will conspire to manifest it. sometimes i do believe in that, there are a few cases when i am thinking of something that i want to happen and it happened. But there are also times that i doubt it because sometimes it's really hard to tell your self to stop feeling bad because you cannot tell your feelings to stop or you cant control them. And everything that you think is always connected with what you are feeling.

I agree that while they are things that happen that will make us sad, upset, or even angry what matters is how we choose to act from there on, how we react to them, the difference makes us either to keep going ot give up. I do not believe being happy is a must all the time, or that being sad is something to be avoided but I think one has to be at peace at least to make the right choice for us and do the right thing. That is what I think.

I agree with this. Our mind is very strong. We can control a lot of things associated with ourselves (I don't believe in law of attraction though). For example, the share prices dropped a lot for the past few months. I've lost more than 3 months salary. I'm supposed to be very sad and frustrated. Well, I did, but not for long. Because in the end, I feel that there's more to life than that. And what's the point of getting frustrated, angry or sad when there's nothing I can do to reverse it? Just accept it, be cheerful and learn how to cope with things. That way, life will be much more entertainment, and the people around you will be happier as well. :)
