Last night I was waiting for the bus and a police car came up and parked in the bus zone. They just sat there. I have to go in front of them to get one the bus. I thought the police were supposed to set an example. Do they do anything like that in your area?

Here the police settle scores with the people who don't like them by resorting to third degree methods.Three months back a lock-up murder case was reported from the neighbouring police station in which an innocent man was killed by three policemen by rolling a big iron rod over his thighs. But the worst side of the story was that their superior officer tried to rescue them by impersonating three other people as the accused persons while taking them to the court. Can you imagine that. When compared to this parking a police car in the bus zone.......how trivial

Well you don't have to be so mean about it! I live in NYC, the police have done a lot worse than the parking thing but it was an example of what I saw.

The police where I live tend to run red lights and speed quite often. I know for a fact that some police officiers turn their lights on to speed and run red lights and once they're thru the light, the lights and sirens get turned off and they return to a pretty normal speed. That of course is NOT the way to go about it and it's not the smartest thing to do when so many people can see you doing it.

That is true, they could report it, but then again, wouldn't the police protect each other?

It is not uncommon thing in our area. The police invariably break the rules because there is nobody to ask them questions. They know that they will not be punished if they are going to act against the law. However, it is not fair and I believe that there should be some authority which should keep watch on them and do not allow them to break the laws. This will send a right message amongst the policemen and the public both.

It's true, when I asked the bus driver about the police, he just said "they do whatever they want"

I haven't seen anything like it here and I don't k now much about police breaking rules because I don't really pay attention on things like this except when it's really a big issue like police caught drunk while on duty and it's rare now maybe they have learned their lessons. But I know that some police don't follow rules if not strictly implemented and yes they should set good examples.

it's rare that you can see good cops nowadays. they're supposed to set good examples but in reality they're the one who breaks the law

I live in India and police breaking the rules here is very common. They set the rules and then they themselves break the rules. For example the traffic rule is that every one should drive with having helmet or with putting seat belts on while driving four wheelers but most of the traffic policemen dont follow this as they know that no-one is going to cut their challan. Now we are quite habitual of police breaking the rules.
