I was drawn to this article on healthier.com because my husband suffers from high blood pressure OR maybe it was because I love chicken soup. LOL Yes, I am a firm believe in Grandmas remedies. It seems the medical community is getting closer to believing too! Heres a clip of the article - "Chicken soup, which has been dubbed Grandma's penicillin for its purported cold-fighting abilities, may also help to lower high blood pressure, a new study suggests. Japanese researchers have found that collagen proteins found in chicken may actually lower blood pressure. These collagens appear to act like the blood pressure medications called ACE inhibitors." Very little of these collagen proteins are found in the breast but abundant in the legs and feet. It went on to say researchers gave these proteins to rats with high blood pressure and it was significantly lowered. You can read the entire article here http://www.healthier.com/Article.jsp?aid=9627 What do you think, Grandmas chicken soup will be the next Blood Pressure medicine? Do you believe the old remedies work? Have a remedy to share?

Well, medicinal properties or not, I still love the taste of chicken soup. Maybe that's the secret to its therapeutic benefits; if it makes you feel good, it releases endorphins which stimulate the body's natural ability to fight illness.

Thanks for sharing this remedy. I have my doubts whether grandmas remedies work or not. However I do believe that natural food can help us fight colds and other illnesses. I always take soup when I have a cold and it does do miracles.

I am not sure if your grandmas soup will be the next medicine for blood pressure but i believe that a lot of herbal medicine helps people who suffer from high blood pressure. There are certain spices and vegetables such as garlic and sayote who is already proven to help lower blood pressure. Sometimes when you also believe that a certain can cure you it will also help you recover sooner. Our mind is powerful and can also help a person to have a fast recovery.

hi redkathy yep I think Grandma really knew what she was doing as the doctors have proved over the last few years, something thats good to eat and is good for you, that sure cannot be beat.I think a lot of the old remedies work. I know when I have indigestion or an upset' tummy that a cup of peppermint tea usually does away' with the upset feeling and the indigestion too.

For years my Dad always wanted chicken soup when he was sick and my Mom, a nurse, would gently make fun of him for being superstitious. Then a newspaper article came out saying basically the same thing as this article here! He gleefully waved it under her nose, though I don't recall her being impressed. But even if there weren't scientific evidence about chicken soup as a remedy, it's a comfort food, and anything that helps a sick person feel better mentally is going to help them at least somewhat physically.

I rarely get sick. I can remember about 10 years ago I was soooo sick I literally could not get up. Bad thing was my youngest had it too. After about three days we both got fevers over 101. My cousin came in with a pot of chicken soup, put it on the stove and left. NO way was she coming anywhere near us! Well in a few days we were good as new.

Hey redkathy, well why not? Grandmas chicken soup was the best! My Mom made really good to! She made it just like her Mom did! That was one thing that they made that I never even tried to. I was always just to lazy. I've made alot of their dishes, but just no the chicken soup and I really loved it. It's always been said that when you're sick you eat some chicken soup and you'll feel better! Now even the docs are agreeing. Wouldn't it be something to find out after all these years if it were really true?

Check out the article when you have time. I was impressed. Yes I do make chicken soup and it does work. If one of us had a sneezing fit and got congested, my grandma used to boil water, add chamomile. Then while it was still steaming put a towel over your head and have you breathe it in to clear allergies from your sinus. It worked too.
