College students, young professionals and parents cooking for children all understand the desire to eat cheap. One of the best ways to shave food costs is to eat at home. A budget doesn't have to keep you from cooking nutritious food that tastes good and with a few simple tricks you can develop satisfying staple meals for less.

I think that eating at home is one of the best way to live cheaply. I think that it also helps to bring the family together when they have meals together too. Eating together is also another way to cut down on wastage, since you will make do if it is not sufficient and finish up if there's more.

I agree, one of the best way to save is to eat home. You can do take out and eat the food at home or order food to be delivered even helped in savings because not everyone will go out and buy, save fare or gasoline. And ordering over the phone cost nothing for the fare or gas.
And eating at home should be normal for families, and what should we do with all kitchen gadgets and utensils if we don't normally eat at home? hmmm to be displayed?

I agree with you. Having a home-cooked meal is really economical.
During my college years, I stayed in an apartment of more than five house mates. We take turns to cook our dinner each week and we found it very helpful in cutting budget costs. Budgeting is really hard in college especially when one's very far from home.
As students, we would just be busy with our studies but cooking our meals helped us learn to be responsible in doing household chores. Bonding during dinner is also observed. During semestral breaks, we go home and have something to share at home about the recipes we've learned.
There are so many things we can learn from cooking our own meals. It's also a good training about household chores for the time when we already have our own family.

Hi MsEdge, You most certainly can eat healthily on a budget. I always make up twice the amount if it is a casserole or something and freeze the rest. We make a lot of pasta dishes and if buying meat I will buy cheaper cuts and cook on a lower heat for longer whilst cooking other items up also. Huggles. Ellie :D

That is true at least you don't have any hassles to go out and buy something to eat. Saves gas engine and money. And eating cheap doesn't cost much compared to eating outside.

My husband is a really good cook, and we were talking about this today. He asked me to ask Mom to get us a slow cooker for Christmas, since he will be able to cook almost anything cheaply in there. He loves cooking, and thinks a slow cooker (crockpot) would be great. I agree with him, and I hope my mother will get us one.

Hi msedge,
Eating at home means eating healthy food as well as cheap. While eating outside home we have to depend on fast food/junk food which is not good for health. May be it is very good to taste but it will affect our health badly in the long run. By preparing food at home we can make sure about the cleanliness too. So better choice is home made food by all means.

Totally agree with you that by budgeting and cooking at home does not stop us from having nutritious food. In fact a simple homecook food is much more healthier and tasty than out side food anytime.
