That is because they don't want others to know the truth that is why they lie.

Well it's an important skill when it comes to socialization. You really need it if you want to survive in this great urban jungle. Being honest all the time will just bring you to failure sometimes. It's better to keep things to yourself sometimes, even from your loved ones, if that's what it takes.

Hi therXayuk!
I think that there are many reasons why people lie. One of these reasons mught be cowardice. When people tell lies just so they won't have to admit that they committed a mistake, that they were irresponsible and sometimes, to put the blame on someone else.
Some people lie to protect their loved ones from pain. Some people believe that what you don't know won't hurt you.
There are people who lie by making up stories so that they will appear to be the hero of the story in the end. Some do it to gain respect and recognition.
Some people lie to protect their own insecurity.
There are lots of other reasons but I think these are the major ones.

for me, it's more for the not wanting to hurt the other person's feelings. i lie for that reason, especially with my loved ones. but i do not lie if i can help it. white lies are still lies, even if they are seemingly harmless. but i think, if you don't lie to people just for the sake of lying, you'll gain their trust and in turn, you'll have higher chances of them not lying to you. but that's just my own personal take on the matter.
