Coats, do you have coats? Most people have a cooler and a warmer season where

they live. They have some type of warmer covering such as a coat, cape, poncho or something. What do you have for colder or cooler weather? How many do you have? Will you be buying more this year? Will you keep with the old ones? Do you have so many that you will donate or give some away? Have you ever been given a coat? Have you ever made a coat? I won't be buying any more new coats. I have some fall/spring coats and some winter ones. If I did buy a coat, it would be for the few days we have sub-zero weather, but I think I will wait and see how they fit. People keep giving me coats, so yes, I've been given coats. But I've never made one. A spring/fall one for here probably wouldn't be too hard to make, but a winter one would be and a sub-zero one would also be. I have a really heavy woolen cape from my Mother-n-law and I have a spring/fall poncho my Mother (who is no longer alive) made for me. So I should be pretty warm when I go outdoors. And you?

I have about 5 coats for the winter. One is real old and I never wear it. Just takes up space in the closet. Have not ever been given a coat by anyone. Bought what I needed but don't buy coats very often. I wear the same ones for a very long time. I have one in particular I love and wear it all the time when it's cold. It's a leather, fur lined jacket that is exceptionally warm. I have 2 old jackets that I wear to shovel snow. I wouldn't know where to start to make a coat.

I can donate the coat. I simply need to remember to take it out of the closet. Keep forgetting to clean out that closet. There is a coat "drive" that goes on just before Thanksgiving, I think. Also I donate my old clothing to a specific organization and they can use anything.

Oh so you have a coat drive, too. I was wondering if other places have them. I'm sure someone could use it. Take care.

The Leather, fur-lined coat sounds really, really nice. I had one as a teen and it was great. Mine was sheep. The one that just takes up space, have you ever thought about donating it? Every year at this time, they have coat donations. That way people who can't afford a coat can have a warm one. I'm not sure if they have that where you are or not. I can't make a coat either, but everyone at Mylot is so talented and resourceful That I'm sure someone here can. Thanks and take care.

I live in a cold country and so I need to wear my coat in the winter and sometimes in the spring and autumn as well. I have a blue coat that is water proof and it has a very warm insert that I can zip inside it for really cold weather. At the moment I am just using my water proof coat. So it is convenient that I can change how warm my coat is. I like to do clutter clearing so I have just one coat that as I have described has an inner and outer part to it. So it is like two coats in one. I won't need to buy a new coat this winter.

That is a very economical coat. I've wanted to buy one with a zip out liner. That way I can have it for three seasons also. I think I only have one coat that is waterproof. Like your coat. Seems really neat. Thanks and take care.

I actually have a flannel shirt that I wear in the winter and the fall here. I've never been able to find a coat that is comfortable for me so I found this shirt and wear it all through the cold seasons. ~~IN SEARCH OF PEACE WITHIN~~ **AGAINST THE STORMS, I WILL STAND STRONG**

AAAHHH, Twoey, I used to be like you. Young and strong. I didn't need warm clothes unless it was sub-zero. But now I'm old and cold, ha,ha. I love flannel shirts, I wish I could wear them to every job. They're like wearing a warm hug. Thanks and take care.

I wish I was young LOL I turned 40 this year and seem to stay cold all the time. I have bought many coats in the past but there is always something wrong with them...the arms are too tight, the chest is too tight, the sleeves are too short...I finally gave up and just went to my flannel shirt. It is awfully comfy and warm but I would probably not end up sick as much as I do if I wore a proper coat when I go out. for cool days I have a few capes, from just a simple double knit black cape to a fancy purple and black lace one - think I have a thing for capes? I also have coats, none very heavy, but I do live in Texas....

Oh, the capes are really not good for cold weather - just cool. They are more for the fun of having capes than staying warm... For example, I have 2 black capes and 2 purple ones....

Interesting, you have capes, I have coats. Each to their own environment. I wish I could get along with capes or ponchos, but not very many days do they work up here. Thanks and take care.

when we moved out west from the east, we got rid of our heavy winter clothing. We were shipping most of our belongings and those coats took up a lot of room. How I wish I had them back now. Little did I know how cold the desert gets in the winter. I've been looking around in the stores at the winter coats on display and can't find much that I like. I don't like wool - I itch unfortunately. I don't like the puffy "ski" jackets. And, of course, I DO like those horrendously expensive coats in the department stores. Maybe I will resort to capes.

I like hand washed and knitted wool. I don't like itchy wool that has been cleaned with chemicals. I used to clean wool. Hypo-allergetic soap, a little of whatevery you wash in wool gets trapped in it, and when you sweat, it gets released. Chemically treated stuff often has acid to disolve plant matter, but it's weaker than the wool. When you sweat or get hot, that acid releases and tends to make people itch. If you can pet a sheep and not itch, then it's not the wool, it's what it's washed with. Wool is funny stuff, under a microscope it has like scales that open and relax and the close. Anyway, I've heard people who moved out to the desert before say they wish they had kept at least one coat. I like the idea of the person above. One coat with a liner, you can take the liner out or put it back in. Would work like two coats. I never seem to see those here. I like capes, just they seem heavy on my shoulders and neck. Thanks and take care.

So I'm not the only one that was sitting here going, "I'd better look in my closet so I can remember what I have." Take care.

I have a leather jacket which I use during our few cold winter days that I have in my country. It is not really cold here so usually I can manage to do without it. I don't have in mind to buy another one. © ronaldinu 2008

A leather jacket is nice. Good that you only need one and it suffices because there are so few cool nights. We have some many temperatures contend with that just one coat won't do it. Must be way cheaper for clothing to live in your country. Take care.
