How do you get sleepy?

It is after 1 am right now and I have been posting in mylot for a couple hours and I am not tired. I have so much energy lately I am having a hard time sleeping. I can't seem to fall asleep at night. I either toss and turn half the night or I get fed up and get up and work on the computer. I was hoping that if I worked on mylot for a while I would get sleepy but it isn't working. I am wide awake and can't see myself getting tired for a few more hours. I hate it when I can't sleep. I live posting in mylot but after awhile that gets boring too. What do you do when you can't sleep? Do you come post in mylot hoping to get sleepy? Please share with me as maybe some of your ideas will help me. I have gotten to the point that I will try anything as this has been going on for about 6 months now and I am tired.

Hi there chrislotz! Once I log-off from myLot at night, I do not go online again until the next day. Otherwise, I might just end up awake all night. When I have a hard time falling asleep, I would turn on my iPod and listen to mellow songs or sometimes, to some classical music. There are also times when I would listen to nature inspired sounds or "music". I have a collection of birds chirping sounds as well as water. Well, it works out fine for me. There are times when I would open a book and read until I really feel sleepy. I do not know though if it will work for you.

Listening to the water would just make me have to go to the bathroom so that wouldn't work for me. Birds chirping makes me happy so that wouldn't work, or I don't think so but who knows. Maybe I need to try that. I do read sometimes but lately when I read I get so engrossed in the book that I stay up half the night reading, can't put the book down.

Hi Chris. I have the same problem of hardly getting sleep at night for a long time. I usually watch tv or film, log on the net or sing on the karaoke in my bedroom, when I can't fall sleep. Lately, when my doctor prescribed me a medicine for my high blood pressure and said I take it at night after dinner together with multivitamin tablet, then I found out that I get sleepy earlier at night and can sleep soundly, unlike before. I don't know if you are taking medicines and if this will work out in your case.

No, I am not on any medications. I actually got a good sleep last night for the first time in a couple weeks. I went to bed at 2 am and fell asleep in about an hour and just got up now. So I actually got about 7 hours sleep which is a lot for me. I guess my body finally got tired enough to sleep. I feel pretty good this morning.

I also find it difficult to sleep when I'm not tired. I went to a psychiatrist and she said that you must clear your mind of everything so that you can sleep. You must lie in bed and don't think of anything else. Focus on your breathing and count from one to ten. Repeat this until you are asleep. It worked fine for me. You can give it a try if you want to.

I will give it a try, thanks. First though I will take advantage of my being wide awake and post some more in mylot. I don't have to get up early or anything tomorrow as I don't work on weekends so it is okay if I stay up late tonight. But even when I stay up I don't sleep very late the next day anyways. I will still be up by 8 am tomorrow, I know it. I wish I could sleep later.

well..i like to answer this discussion..if i open my book..i mean my text book..after reading few pages..the sleep will come to me..this is funny one always...but in the exam time i cant sleep..lol..have a nice time with us in mylot

hi ,friend,i have the same promblem sometime for the deep night studing i think we have a certain day-night cycle of about 24hours called the circadian rhythm,it greatly influences when we sleep and the qualituy of your sleep,the more stable and consistent our circadian rhythm is,the better sleep,this cycle may be altered by the timing of various facteos,including naps,exercise,,, usually i come acrossing the promblem i choose listen the music or cross-talking ,and then only a 3-5 minuates ,i will go sleeping deeply the habit have been making me into the sleeping situation very quickiy ,,,,,

Hi chrislotz, it’s so sorry to learn that you couldn’t fall asleep the whole night. I did experience this insomnia problem occasionally. It’s really annoying and I worry that I might feel tired the following day. When I come across this sleeping problem in the middle of the night I won’t lie in the bed and keep on thinking freely about whatever thing and I know this usually would make the sleeping problem worse. After getting up I try not to do activities which I’m interested, this would make me more energetic and could hardly get into sleep anymore. What I usually do is to stand facing the opened window and try to swing my both hands one after another at least 20 minutes, and then I would have a leisured walk back and forth in my living room for about ten minutes. After doing so I feel relaxed and I would fall asleep easily after lying on the bed. posting and have a sound sleep

Thanks for the ideas for falling asleep. Maybe my problem is when I can't fall asleep I get up and work in mylot. Then I get so engrossed in it that I end up staying up and working the site instead of going back to bed and trying again to fall asleep.

You are most welcome chrislotz. Thanks for awarding me the best response and I really appreciate it. Yeah, you like mylot posting and this definitely makes you more energetic while you are so engrossed in doing it the whole night through. I personally feel that you should get suitable amount of rest, so you won’t feel exhausted the following day. So I always try to avoid staying too long with mylot especially during night time. posting and take care.

hello chrislotz. First all I would like to ask you what do you usually eat and drink before going bedtime. This are my tips for you. (1)Avoid stimulant food at the evening, avoid coffee, softdrinks ar any energy drink (2)Also avoid spicy foods and beef. (3)Drink a glass of milk. (4)Avoid sleeping/napping during the day. (5)Go to bed the moment you feel sleepy do not procrastinate as the sleepiness feeling may gone and never regain. (6)Avoid worrying about anything. If after doing this still you can't able to go sleep at night, maybe you're suffering from insomnia and you better seek doctor's advice

I think you are right about a couple points here. I don't go to bed as soon as I feel sleepy, thinking it is too early to go to bed and I will be up too early if I go to bed too early. I do drink a cup of coffee or a pop sometimes in the evenings but usually not. Usually I just drink water all evening. I will try to go to bed from now on as soon as I get sleepy and see if that works, thanks.

I have trouble sleeping too nowadays, actually I have been having trouble falling asleep since I was like 7 I think. One thing I know is that when you are trying to do something to keep you entertained whenever you can't sleep and you need to, that will never help, and actually keep you awake for few extra hours. What I mean by that is like posting discussions on mylot, watching movies or anime, playing video games or computer games, listening to music, whatnot. I have tried to empty my mind, count a range of numbers backwards, which I could not even focus, and obviously I have failed. One thing that I have tried is going outside in the middle of the night and taking a walk. Sometimes that did help me fall asleep, but sometimes it didn't help me. I also have tried reading a boring book, and most of the time that didn't help me too much; what I would end up doing is just put the book down and at least try to sleep. But then again, I would last a few dozen minutes staying awake. (sadly i have sleeping problems as well) I don't know, if you are type of a person who just wants to do something whenever you are bored, or if ur type of a person who just gets bored constantly like I do, then I think you will have alot of trouble falling asleep. Sorry I can't help -_T;;

Don't drink coffee or tea when you are near your bedtime. Go for a glass of milk. Try to listen to some sentimental music as I believe it will help in making you sleep easier. If all these do not work, I think you might have too much things on your mind. Try not to think about them as you can't solve them overnight. Have you tried reading some books to get asleep? To me, it is the fastest way to fall asleep.

Posting in mylot for a couple of hours? no wonder you are not sleepy. When the dollars start adding up you can't sleep. You have to start counting it. If you are bored, just pick up a really boring book and start reading it. it will put you to sleep in 5 minutes.

The problem is when I get into a book I can't put it down. I have to keep reading and then I am not sleepy because the book is too good. I guess I need to find some boring books, huh? But then how do I read it if it is boring? hmm, I have a problem.

Reading a book works well for me. No I don't get on the computer to get sleepy. If anything it has just the opposite affect on me. I like to get a good book and read for an hour or so before retiring to th bed and it helps relax my mind.

I get sleepy watching the god for nothing programs in the TV.I am always happy to switch it off and go to my sleep.

I had this trouble before,whenver l am tired or full of energy,but now I find a good solution,when I want to be asleep,I try my best to keep devoid in my mind and make my heart silent,I found that I can fall a sleep quickly with this condition,althong diffirent people have diffirent condition,I hope you can try it.It may be benificial to you!
