All children have a special way of saying or calling their Mother. When my mother was living I called my mother, momma. My daughter call me ma. I have cousins that called their mother, modea. My first cousins call their mother, mommie. Some children even called their mother by her first name. What is the special way you refer to your mother?

Hi chevee, When my mother was alive, I use to call he mum or mummy, but my husband use to call he mother by her own name, his brother and sister are the same and I couldn't get my head round that one, why their mother used to let them call her by her name, I think its sad. Love & Hugs. Tamara

I have a cousin, whose husband calls her mother, mother-in-law. It sounds very funny when he says this.

I call here my mama! I think she is the best. I call my grandmother granny. I call my dad, daddy. My kids call me mom. I would never think to call my parents or grandparents by their given name. I think it would be disrespectful to them.

I call my mother "nanay". This is how common Filipinos call their mothers specially from the Tagalog regions. But in the Visayan regions, they call them "mama". I noticed that the new generation and rich Filipinos call their mothers "mommy".

I called her "ma". U know, this is Chinese pronunciation. In south korea, they call mothers as "aon ma". I just wondered... Why people all over the world call mom almost the same! It is worth researching somehow

Hi chevee, I call my Mother, Mom or Ma or "mommie dearest" when I'm kidding around with her or by her first name too when I'm kidding around. Most of the time I think I call her Ma, which I think she hates by the way. I'm not sure that I remember exactly why, but I think that she doesn't like it. Oh well! I'm a little old to call her Mommie! And my cat Luna calls me "mama"! Yes, he does say "mama". He says it very clearly and freaks out my friends who are lucky enough to hear him say it! I had a cat named Cougar who called me "Ma"! So I figured let me try teaching another cat to say it too! So I said it one day to my cat Luna and he repeated it and now he says it all the time over and over and he knows that I'm mama! When people hear him when I'm on the phone they think it's a kid saying it! When I tell them it's my cat they don't believe me. But, I have witnesses!

Here in my country the local term for mother is NANAY or INAY. I call my mom NANAY and my grandmother too, my kids call me mommy. in some parts they call their mother mamma (reads like ma-ma) MY siblings are really close that our kids have special name for ech. my eldest sister is called MAMA BEAR, because she was like a bear to the kids, she can really make them laugh, and then me, my nephews call me mommy ninang (term for godparent) because I was their god parents and because they now lack endearment term for me, so it was decided that even thoguh I amnot a godparent to my other nephews I would be called as such. Then MAma boo. then we have mamu

When I was a kid, I called my mother mommy but as I got older I now call her mom. Some times I tease her and call her mother in a low tone. And other times playing around I'll call her ole mother hubbard, who went to the cubbard.... lol My cousin calls her mom mother in a condencending way because she thinks she's above her, which is sad and wrong.

When cancer prevented conception, I adopted a lot of kids. They were either runaways or throwaways, and I forgot I didn't give birth to them. They were all well aware of their earlier lives with their birth mothers, so most of them called me "Other", and I loved it! Still do.

I just call her Mom. But from when I was small to now the name has changed. When I was very young she was Mommy. In my teenage years she was Mother (didn't get along at all!!). Now she is just Mom. :-)
