Well it's sad to see two stores going out of business here in the US. Linens 'n Things and Mervyn's are going to be gone. Still I love clearance sales and I will most likely be one of the vultures over at both stores taking advantage of the discounts while the merchandise lasts. There go a lot of jobs though. Sure hope this economy turns around sooner rather than later!

These are my most favorite and least favorite sales. I do find some of the best deals ever, it is sad to see some stores going out of business thoguh.

Yeah, great deals in the short run, but another of my favorite stores closed, job losses, etc. Sad...

You know, I feel the same way and it is kind of sad to feel that way. I am so excited to be presented with a way to save money. But, at the same time, you feel so bad for those who lost their jobs. I don't have a Linen's N Things located a resonable distance away, but I did see that they are having some clearance sales on their website, so I will probably check that out from time to time.

I really hope that you make some good bargains. However my thoughts are with the unfortunate workers whose job will be terminated. I really hope that the economy turns out good for all of us. © ronaldinu 2008

My thoughts are with them too. I just escaped a scare with my job, I am safe for now, but I totally empathize with them. Hope they find something else that lasts longer...

Wow! I had no idea that there were still Mervyn's stores around. All of ours in the area closed several years ago. Our local Linens 'n Things already closed. It was one of the first stores that got hit. Now it looks like I'll have to check out some of the others because they sell the sheets I love. The only thing I hate is that I go too early when there's not much of a discount and by the time I return for the bigger ones, everything is pretty much gone. I need to work on my timing. LOL

Hi Dawn,we live in a small town that is being badly affected by the state of the economy, there are so many small businesses that have closed or are on the brink of closing. The last one to go was a fashion shop for young women.I am certain that the housing market has been hit badly too, there are many for sale boards put up by the estate agents that have been up for many many months. There is also a huge amount of rented property that is stood empty. One of the large retailers opened a small store(sainsburys)in the heart of the town, but it only lasted a couple of months and it closed. Most people are strapped for cash and are constantly searching for a bargain.I wonder how the larger outlets will fare over the Christmas period, whether they will notice a slow down in sales,or whether most will grin and bare it and let their credit cards loose at the eleventh hour,it will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm sure there will be a slowdown. If the unemployment rate is anything like it is here, people won't be buying. And more stores will close. etc.

Dont count on it, To get it to turn around its going to take a major revolution by the people to change the economy...likely its just going to get worse because americans dont even REALIZE how bad its going to get
