Did you play conkers as a child?

Conkers is a game traditionally played by children in Britain, Ireland and some former British colonies using the nuts of horse-chestnut trees – the name conker is also applied to the nut and to the tree itself. The game is played by two players, each with a conker threaded onto a piece of string: they take turns to strike each other's conker until one breaks. Here in my home town there is a Conker Festival happening tomorrow.(Sunday 19th October) It is a fun filled family day. Where there is a conker competition for adults and children. It is alot of fun as they have music, pottery workshop, Arts and crafts face painting and a clown for the children. There is also Charity and Community Stalls. So i was wondering did you ever play conkers as a child?. Now a days conkers have now been banned in school here in the UK as they say that it is too dangerous. Which is a shame as i used to have alot of fun playing conkers as a child. Is there any games that you played as a child at school that your child is not allowed to play anymore because it is considered too dangerous.

I have never heard of conkers before. It seems that almost every thing is dangerous any more. The schools here don't have the merry-go-rounds,teeter-totters, or swings any more. The kids can't play baseball because some one might get hit by the ball. We used to have all that playground equipment and learned how to keep from getting hurt on them. we learned not to walk in front of a swing, but I guess kids these days can't learn that. We too have Festivals for a lot of different things. There is the peach festival the chitlin festival. The list is endless. They have music arts and crafts stalls as well as food stalls.

It's such a shame alot of games we played as children are no longer allowed in schools. They never done us any harm and as you say that was the way we learned about things.
