I have a cockatiel that either has abandonment issue or like to here herself screech. For the past week she has been doing nothing but squauking and she get louder when we leave the room, turn on the faucet or turn on music wshe seem to not like. Are Cockatiels usually very noisy? if not why would she be so vocal and hard to calm down.

Ok let me ask you a few questions before i answer your question. Is this your first cockatiel, also does the bird get out of his cage at all. They will get louder when hearing diffrent noises that part is normal. But i need to know how often the bird gets out of the cage, and how much people interaction the bird gets.

She gets out at least one tim a month but on her terms. She only like my byfriends lap. As Fair as noises we dont get many new sounds but we have a train, going by quite a bit and she sits in front of a window.

Sounds like our Cockatiel, Max. He is going on 2 years this year and has become more and more vocal. Sometimes it's ear piercing, but it's so good to hear him get going for he was quiet before. He also does'nt not like to come out of the cage much himself. The first chance he can get, he usually flies right back to his cage. It has to be on his terms to, and he's had plenty of interaction. He was always skitterish and wasn't coming out of that cage, if he can help it, right from the moment we got them both. Unfortunatelty his mate passed away almost a year ago. I just think some noises take them by surprise and they express their displeasure at being jumped/scared by it, other times I'm sure it's because the noises he hears, makes him think he's out in the wild. He really loves it when we watch anything of nature and when he hears them birds a going, wow, he jumps even me. It's hard to say, but I also think they want to hear themselves. I'm not an expert or anything, but I also sit here and wonder why he does some of the things he does.
