What do you Look for When you are Learning a New Crochet Technique or Project?

When you are researching a new crochet technique, what are the important aspects that the author of a blog or pattern can provide, so you are able to achieve the stitch with the lowest amount of frustration? If you come across a video tutorial, what do you want that video to provide for you?

gee i haven't seen anyone crochet for years, I learnt years ago although i was never really any good at it, but I used to love wht other people did the really fine crochet work, I think today it is more like a real art, good on you if you are good at it...
