why birth control?

I have friends who use birth control, but I don't understand why so many women take it. It messes up your hormones and what your body is naturally wanting to do, which is having a normal period. It also may cause stroke, heart attack, or blood clot. Why would anyone want to take that chance??? Birth control also makes you gain weight for like the first year or two, why would someone want to deal with that? I don't agree with birth control, but my question is why do so many other women? why do you risk hurting your body? guys can respond too!

I started taking birth control when I was 16 and now I am 29. I stopped for a while between the ages of 20 and 21 because that is when I had my daughter. Soon after having my daughter I started back. Women take birth comtrol so they will not have children or to prevent having another one so soon. I have not had any side effects from the birth control pills, the Depo is another story. I have not gain any weight with my current birth control. Its different for every woman.

The chance of side affects is very limited if you are under 35 and a non smoker - which I am and that is why the pill is a good option for me. Also, the pill is over 98% effective IF taken properly - meaning same time each day with absolutely NO missed pills. It is also effective in regulating out of whack hormones which is why it will clear your skin and regulate your period. I have been on the pill since I was 15 and have never experianced weight gain with any of the kinds I've tried. Having a baby when you aren't ready, willing & able to handle one is a much bigger risk if you ask me.
