Wild turkeys

Wild Turkey - This is one of two wild turkeys that came on to our property yesterday looking for something to eat. They were grazing around our oak tree and then they flew away.

Yesterday I was reading and one of the kids hollered, "Mom there are turkeys on the driveway". So I went out with the camera and got a few shots. The kids were sitting there watching them as they ate something (seeds?) underneath the oak tree. Then they walked partway down the hill and flew away to the other side of the street. Cool!Do you ever have any interesting wildlife sightings at home?

We live in a rural area and see wildlife quite often. Often we are visited by rabbits, woodchucks, bears, deer, foxes, skunks, chipmunks, and squirrels.

We do too but no woodchucks! We have seen coyotes, bobcats, rabbits, turkeys, geese, herons, deer, skunks, raccoons and there are bear and cougars too, but we haven't seen them.

The small northern midwest city that I live in has several herds of deer that roam through daily. They pass through our yard and occasionally even head right down the street. They are wild animals but definitely used to the presence of people. I have spotted a coyote in the area once (out in the country). They were very rare in my state until the last few years. Bears have been spotted slightly north of us (also a new occurence for this part of the state) and someone saw a mountain lion in the county next to ours last year. We also see Sand hill cranes at this time of year which stop in the area for awhile on their journey south. Turkeys are pretty prevalent around here too although they rarely make an appearance in town by our home. Unwanted critters include bats and flying squirrels who often decide to move into our attic.

We've seen or been near pretty much all those except for flying squirrels. Deer are more common over by my sister's place - more trees. They eat her flowers and think her yard is a smorgasbord!

We had some very confused moose hanging around in town last winter. They were in my parents front yard, a mom and a baby. We had one in the back alley at work too. A few years ago I was coming home to my apartment at about 5 am and there were probably 6 or 7 deer eating grass in the parking lot. My parents also have the odd pheasant appear in their back yard. And once quite a few years ago my aunt woke up to discover a cow standing on her front lawn!

Confused moose - An out of place moose. Wondered into town and hung out for a bit. Picture taken from my parent's basement.
Again with the double post, sorry! But here's a picture from the parent's basement of the confused moose.
