Left over!

Roast Chicken - Chicken

I roasted a chicken for dinner tonight and have plenty left over. I will be able to make chicken sandwiches tomorrow for lunch but will still have plenty left over. Can anyone tell me if it is ok to freeze it? It is a bit greasey. I have bought frozen strips of cooked chicken in the past but not sure if it is ok to freeze roasted chicken. Anyone have any ideas?

You certainly can. Any meat, once you cook it, you can refreeze. This is great for smaller families. I do it with chicken and then pull it for another meal or for sandwiches. I do a ham for lunch meat as well. It is much cheaper than deli and less preservatives.

Hi Humbug, Cooking is no my area but I am sure someone has answered this questin by now as I haven't a clue but if not able to feeze it I would make into a curry or a caserole for tea tonight, maybe even add some dumplings for extra filling. Enjoy whatever you do decide to do with it. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Humbug, I have made a few from scratch as my sister-in-law is Thai and some of her recipes are fabulous and really spicy which I love bu I quite often cheat with a cook in sauce but will only buy them if on offer. Huugles. Ellie :D

I do it all the time Humbug. There should be no problem provided that it's properly cooked through. I've not killed us yet!

hi humbug of course you can freeze roasted chicken, just let it cool, then cut in manageable pieces wrap in plastic freezer bags, and use it within a couple of months. it will come in handy in those times when you need to thaw out something for a fast meal. You can always cut off any extra fat so it wont be so greasy.

be glad to, hi right back at u, debone your chicken, add a can of mixed veggies [or 2, depends on what size u are making], add a little onion, a can of cream soup [chicken, mushroom, or celery], add a little curry powder, salt & pepper to taste. thaw a frozen pie shell [or 2] & cut it in strips & place across your mixture that u put in a baking dish . bake till it's bubbly & the crust is brown. [30-40 min.]. i love cranberry sauce w/mine. let me know if u make it. i love them.

My wife freezes everything. In fact it got to the point where my daughter said that it's a wonder she doesn't freeze little Elijah, our grandson, then thaw him out when she needs a cuddle.

It is fine if you will put the cooked roasted chicken in the freezer which is the best of it and would last for more or less than 1 year...as I knew about it as long as it is keep frozen and you have to put a tag unto the date of it so taht you are much more aware about it.....

Why not make a curry out of it and invite all us mylotters round for tea mmmmm. But like someone said leaving it to cool naturally before freezing is always best

Hi Humbug, I'm sure it will be alright, I've never done it myself because I'm funny with meat especially chicken but aslong as it's not been cooked and not reheated it will be fine.

My family loves roasted chicken. We never have any leftovers, so I've never frozen it before. One dish I love to make with the leftovers is Chinese Chicken Salad. A friend of mine from Japan gave me a recipe for a wonderful dressing to go over the top of it. It's delicious. You could also make homemade chicken soup with the leftovers, of roasted chicken salad. It's great on toasted bread. Just my 2 cents.

Make sure that it cools down first. If you have some left overs that you don't know what to do with, you can always send some chicken titbits by email...© ronaldinu 2008

Hi ya ronaldinu I have never frozen cooked chicken before as I usually get the right size bird for the amount of people I am feeding but when I bought the chicken it was cheaper to buy a slighter bigger one than my usual chicken! Thanks for your response

I think it would be OK. I dont know how good it would taste though. I would try not to do it unless there is absolutley no other option. I like the taste of roast chicken but I dont know if I would like the taste of one that has been frozen.

You can definitely freeze roasted chicken just make sure it is allowed to cool to room temperature before you throw it in otherwise it will go bad fast. I am not sure how long it keeps but I imagine quite some time once frozen. (BTW - roasted chicken sounds really good so thanks for the dinner idea!)
