My family is thinking of getting a pet (dog) for our home. We have children 2 boys, one toddler and the other soon to turn teen. What breed of dog would make the best home pet? All suggestions are welcome and thank you for your time.

well i have to say first what kinda of lifestyle do you live , first It all depends on what type of dog you are looking for to fit into your lifestyle. Are you home alot , not home alot . please do your reading on what dog you choose before buying one. I have a Cavalier king charles spaniel . Awsome dog , great with are 4 year old and are teenaage daughter. Some other dogs i would look into would be German shepherd , {great dog} we also had one when are daughter was growing up. Border collie, Soft Coated wheaton terrier, Bulldog, boxer, Collie, and a great Pyrenees are some great dogs to consider , oh and a beagel. But again it does depend on your lifestyle and hoe big of a dog you want. But these are some great dogs.

I love my collies- they are Gentle -sweet natured dogs. but if you get long hair- they require plenty of grooming- but there is a smooth or short coated variety. Collies are very smart and love to love and be loved! They also like to keep an eye on their people!

Terriers are great dogs. They are playful and active. I like the herding dog that we have, Belgian Malinois. She's intelligent, sweet, playful, active and great in guarding our home. But I find her too active, she like to jump and run. She's very loyal.

My family has always been a cat and dog family, and we love both kinds of animals and we have always had one kind of dog, that is a chihuahua, they are small, which means they do not eat much, they are easy to train, and they are not very vicious but they are very protective and loving, and they are small enough to fit into a bag or purse, friends of mine and my fiances were over earlier today and they brought their baby, and the chihuahuas were curious, but they did not bother the baby, and I think they are a good pet for kids.

I swear by miniature shelties (shetland sheepdogs). My family has had three so far and I remember growing up to one of them and never feeling harmed. Shelties have a natural response in keeping people close together, similar to the way they round up sheep by circlin them. They are also very fast learners and adapt to their owners. My shetland actually barks and jumps between me and my brother whenever he sees us argue or pretend to punch eachother... I think it is funny. So yeah, I love those kind of dogs and hope you find a dog that fits your family needs. It is a big choice to make. Thanks for asking!
