I must admit I'm somewhat (How should I say?)....comfortable. You know, the kind of person whose home is rather lived in. Not necessarily messy, mind you, but relaxed. I was just wondering what adjectives you would use to describe your home surroundings.

Early warehouse? Warning: Loading Area!
Nah, actually, that only applies to the garage and one room in the basement. When we moved here, I had to move all of my mother's things here at the same time because she passed away just as we were packing to move. Since she lived in an apartment, I had to get her things out as soon as possible, so it all came here.
Two entire households jammed into one. Well, not quite, I sold her Ethan Allen furniture to a company that sells nicely kept used furniture. Some things I gave to my two sons, but the rest... including my late step-father's entire office (he was a self-employed Professional Engineer). It was a nightmare!!!
Eventually, though, I've been able to sift through enough to put the main floor in reasonably nice order.
I'd call it 'comfy'. It looks nice, I think, but I'm not a clean freak by any means. The Health Department wouldn't condemn it, but it's not so clean that you're afraid to smudge anything when you visit.
You used a great word to describe my home... relaxed. That's the main objective for most of us, isn't it? We SHOULD be relaxed in our own homes!
We bought almost all new furniture when we moved here because I decided when my kids were young that I wouldn't waste money buying furniture so expensive that I'd cry if it were to get ruined by a puddle of glue in the seat cushion, permanent marker or a wad of plasticine clay leaking oil into the wood or fabric. I "kid-i-cized" my house when they were young.
Now that they're older and out on their own, I decided that the time had come to buy the furniture that I've wanted all my life. It's nice, but didn't break the bank, either. I looked for sales.
Lemmee see... I think I have a picture of our livingroom somewhere around here. Ah, here it is. That's the son of a friend of mine whose playing a video game in my living room. This was taken last 4th of July. As you can see, you almost CAN'T see the coffee table. LOL

Thank you for the further insight to your life; and even with pictures. Your LR looks lovely. Those days of kids coming over to play games is over, thank goodness. Now all my wife has to contend with is me. I am enough of a handful. It's better than a former son-in-law of mine though. When my daughter was cooking spaghetti one day, after stirring the pot of sauce, she turn around for just a moment to get some spices. After adding the spices she looked for the spoon to stir again. Her husband had already picked up the spoon, washed it, and put it back in the drawer. How's that for cleanliness? I'm far from being that way. Thanks for the response mentalward.

Your former son-in-law is worse than even my step-father was! He was an electrical and mechanical engineer. He measured EVERYTHING! He would measure the distance between the lights on the Christmas tree! My mother said it would take him 5 hours just to put the lights on to his satisfaction!
Every knic-knac in the house was placed in a precise location and angle. It couldn't move or he would get upset.
He yelled at my youngest son (yeah, the wayward one) when he was only about 3 years old for running through their apartment and having the audacity to touch the walls! His fingers were reasonably clean! Geesh!
Their home was like a museum. All elegant Ethan Allen furniture, expensive lamps, vases, etc. etc. You feared touching anything! I never even wanted to sit down when we visited for fear of wrinkling their sofa. I always felt very uncomfortable in their home.
He kept one of those little dustbuster things handy at all times... no crumb stayed on the table or floor for more than 30 seconds! But, I must admit that he wouldn't grab a used spoon and wash it before it was finished being used! That HAS to take the prize!@mentalward (14690)

Oh, pay no attention to the date on the picture. Hubby hadn't figured out how to put the correct date on the camera yet. The camera was new, too.
I forgot the rest of your question: Me? I'm relaxed, too. I kinda go with the flow. Life's easier that way. Same goes for my surroundings... relaxed, peaceful, serene. That's the way I want to grow old.
Here's another picture of MY son (my oldest son) in the living room.

I would describe my home very comfortable and relaxing. My home is well lived in,I am not a neat freak but i do keep it clean and tidy.I always have a candle or two going which gives it a nice scent. We are not the type of people to put everything right back after we use something but it will get put back sometime during the day.I don't have any small children so its not too hard in keeping it tidy. happy mylotting

well i was about to start the same discussion and i was just about to say that i could be described as relaxed too
. although i think you can describe our house as messy
but only when i am in front of the pc working and the husband is busy taking care of our baby. i clean our house every night before i go to bed so i can wake up to a clean house the next day, and my husband cleans it in between taking care of our daughter
