why does a guy want to have a secret relationship?

My roomie Cecilia has been very depressed these days. There is a boy, they have been more than friends for a long time. And just yesterday, he told Cecilia that he wanted to have a secret relationship with her. He wanted to keep his friends in the dark, especially her ex girlfriend. and lots of demands has been put forward.
well, i dont want to judge, but i just cant figure out what is the point. and i found some guys are really into those secret relationships. so, why?

I can think of two reasons.... 1.) Still has his girlfriend or is dating more than one person. 2.) Is using your friend as a booty call only and does not want anyone to know about her. Sounds too fishy to me and I would drop him like a bad habit. No man is worth that sort of anguish! She needs to toughen up and let him go. Better to do it now!

thanks for the two reasons!! i agree with you about that "no man is worth that sort of anguish!" yeah, we just got cecilia back on her life. she promised there wont be any contact with this guy.

Possibly because he feels like people will judge them for their relationship, or he likes her and is kind of embarrassed about it, or because he is planning on cheating and having a seceret relationship with multiple girls, or because the fact that they are keeping it seceret would feel kind of like they arent allowed and thus more "exciting" it could be any number of reasons really, personally I dont think thats worth it, I would want to know WHY he wanted a seceret relationship, and if I wasn't comfortable with it, I would say no, You want me, you will put up with being my guy in public too, so yeah, it really could be any number of reasons.

ok, yeah, thanks that you have thought for so many reasons! well, i think you are right for those reasons which turns out just excuses. Thankfully we have got cecilia right on her track of life. She has ended this. Hopefully she will get her mr.right. thanks for your reponse.

I have a feeling that his ex is not an ex an maybe hes is still seeing her with his friends that is why he wants to keep it secret, he wants two girls on a string, why do you think they keep secrets, they are playing the field, I'll the him where to go.

I don't want to judge either. But I just think if Cecilia will ever accept him, she will only be left behind. What I mean is, what's the use of hiding if he really has sincere intentions with Cecilia? He must be proud if they will be in a relationship. Somehow his ex girlfriend and his friends will understand him if they will know that he is really falling in love with Cecilia. I guess if he want to have a secret relationship with her, he is not proud of her and he is just having a trial and error thing. If it will not work fine, if it will then I guess it's the time he will tell the world about Cecilia. mmmmm. Sounds not good. But this is my opinion only. I guess Cecilia should have second thoughts on this. But either way, her decision is still final.
