I try to keep my computer up to date as far as technology is concerned. But surely every time i opt for an upgrade i do keep in mind the expenses. I have upgraded my music system with creative and the windows version as well as a dvd writer in the past. Now i am planning to change the processor itself and increase the ram too. Do you keep upgrading your computer or just let it go and buy a new one?

I used to do that. I was a serious PC gamer. So I need to get new graphics card, more RAMs and proper sound card. After 3 years of upgrading, I will buy a new PC. But after that I gave up. I now focus on video game. And if there's a need for new PC, i would prefer to get a laptop. :)

My pc cannot be upgraded as it has reached the top of its configuration.Mine is a laptop and there is limitation for upgradation.Actually, upgrading a laptop is like fitting radial tyres to a bullock-cart.So if I want a highend pc I would need to buy a new one.But I do download security updates from microsoft and install them.SO I can say that my computer is updated security wise lol

I don't know a thing about computers except how to switch them on and off and sometimes I might even have problems doing that. However, my husband is a computer engineer and my two sons work in IT so between them, they are always upgrading my computer. Sometimes, the parts are so expensive that it could be cheaper to buy a new one, but I am assured by my offspring that a new one wouldn't be as fast or as good as the one which I have.

My computer is quite old now but yes, I have upgraded it in the past and there's still another upgrade that I need to do, two in fact! I didn't have an Ethernet port in order to access the Internet so I inserted an Ethernet adapter into a spare pci slot. Now I want to upgrade my memory, I have 512MB at the moment and the maximum amount of memory that my system can take is 1GB. I have to remove the two 256MB memory modules and insert two 512MB modules totalling 1GB. I also want to upgrade my graphics capability. At present I just have onboard video. I want to purchase a video card, probably nvidia and then install it in my last remaining pci slot. I don't have an AGP or PCI Express slot so I have to go with the pci standard video card. That will be the limit that I am able to upgrade my present system. I will then consider buying a higher spec motherboard and then building up a pc around this motherboard. If you have the knowledge then it is best to upgrade your computer yourself and buy the individual parts that you need rather than going out to a store and buying a ready made computer. Andrew

I've upgraded in the past, if parts were available. With super machines available now well under $400, it's really not worth it. However, the PC I'm using is 5 years old and works well. My server first came out in '92 and it also works well, except there are no parts for AlphaServers any more.

Nope ..I do not upgrade my PC.The upgrading of PC is very much cash consuming and also the technology is moving faster and faster.1 year back i went to upgrade my ppc my pc was 4 years old at that time and they tell me that the cost upgrading it will go as much as buying a new one so i bought a new one now my sister is using my old PC..its working fine until now
