My mouth can't find my keys...

Have you ever used the mouth search system? Or do you know of anyone who does?
I do use this kind of search sometimes. And I've witness a lot of people I know use this kind of search. So be honest because I think you have probably done it too or are still doing it. Examples could be:
"Where are my keys? I just put them here yesterday." You're just saying this without actually using your eyes and hands to search.
"Where is my phone?" Then you ask that person around you if they've seen your phone or if they saw where you put your phone.
"Where did (item) go? It was just here a few minutes ago. Who took it? Why don't they ask first if they want to borrow (item)?" And then you remember a few minutes later or an hour later that you actually hid it "somewhere you'd remember" for safekeeping?
So should I put your name on the list in case we need more volunteers to search for something by mouth?

This is a great way to describe this behaviour SaintAnne!
I have most definitely done the same more times than I care to remember and run around frantically while someone at the receiving end patiently tells me to retrace my steps and when did you have them last? etc etc. lol. I am hopeful though that this may actually be some subliminal connection with the netherworld that eventually draws us to our lost items by the use of these repetitive mantras. One of the more appropriate ones being But it was here a minute ago, but it was HERE!"
Better put me on the list I think.....

Haha, maybe if you say HERE just one more time, the missing item will suddenly reappear. Hmmm, what if they were actually enjoying themselves in the netherworld and we deprive them of that by calling them back to serve us? Human beings! James, since you have basically been to a number of countries, I think I'd like to put you in charge of our entire international department.

Your hubby then is lucky to have you around to look for his missing stuff, enola. Yes, keys always give us a hard time unless we put them in a regular spot. We really can't leave the house without our keys, right? So we have to find them. Now I just make sure to leave the keys by the door so I know it's always there when I need to go right away.

Do they automatically appear when you say the word "where?" like "open sesame"?

You are a lucky man. You should always let your wife know and feel that she is appreciated and loved, balasri.

I think it is, angel_of_charm. Anyone who says they haven't done it once or twice before is lying. Hahaha...

Is THAT what that is called? I do it all the time, mostly when there is no one around to answer. Then I find myself having extensive conversations with myself about whatever it is I am looking for. I walk from one room to the next, asking if I left it here, for some reason. Then I hear myself say, "No, why would I have put it there, that doesn't even make sense!" Then a third voice chimes in, (again, my own) and, says that we are both being silly and it is probably right where we left it.
I have to remind that third voice that it probably IS right where we left it, but, Could you be so kind as to tell us WHERE that is?
So, if you would like to add one crazy person who carries on a three way conversation with herself to your list, sure, go right ahead!

I just diagnosed it and gave it a name. I think you are doing what others call retracing their steps. So which one of your voices is almost always right about where you put the missing item?
Your technique could actually work for us. You can even lead your own lecture. We'll probably just have a harder time deciding which voice to listen to. Thanks, bohemianheart.

Which voice is right? Hmmmm, well, usually the third one, but she really is no help at all. She can never tell me where that place is. But, it is always right where I left it.
Oooh, yeah, my method might get already confused people more confused. We wouldn't want that, would we?

Hey, we'll take whatever method, just as long as it helps us find that elusive object!

The mouth ALONE can't find the things that have been misplaced. But using it with your brain, memory, hands and eyes sure does help a lot. Thanks, dong!

I see my self right there Sisi! Most of the times I am alone in the house and I keep talking to myself doing the 'mouth search' thing and I find it really effective. You can actually remember the proceedings specially if you are doing it all the time. So one clue talk relates to the other and we could finally get to the thing.
And dear, can I enroll myself? Do you find me fit for the job?

Yes, mimpi. It sounds like you're an effective mouth searcher. Our agency is always open to those who are very well qualified.

Hi Anne,
I am this person also but I talk and search! LOL! I guess everyone in my family is like this, asking to everyone but at the same time searching also the possible area where they leave it..LOL!
I guess this is our indirect way of asking help from other people when we are searching something! LOL!

Hahaha... it's genetic or hereditary in your family. Well, the family that searches together, stays together. Take care, checapricorn. Did you ever work out that issue with your paypal account?

Living alone has broken me of that habit, although it's really not a bad idea! Not too long ago I went looking for the couch cover that I had removed from the couch. I had removed it because every time my mother came over here she freaked out that my cats were going to ruin it. But the rest of the family was coming up so I wanted to put it back on.
It was not where I thought I had put it. I searched this house from one end to the other and back again about three times, and it's a VERY big house. I was so frustrated and annoyed that I was talking out loud asking the walls "Where did I put that phucking thing???"
I would have been better off if I had used my mouth to ask my mother, because she had come over here and taken it without a word to me!!! I could have smacked her I was so ticked off.
I no longer put things in a 'safe place' either. I swear, I believe all the things I have ever done that with are all having a big party, laughing their a$$es off while I search and search and search for them. They're slapping each other on the back and sh!t going "Hahahahaha... she's going through that drawer again looking for you Mr. Lawnmower Manual! What an idiot!"

Ziggy Stardust was my favorite Bowie album of all time!!!
Hehehehe, obviously you have heard them snickering and giggling too! I love that 'sssshhhh, here she comes part'!
And that is what is soooooooo utterly mind-bogglingly frustrating about my mother and that friggin couch cover! That is EXACTLY what you get a couch cover for... so that the cover gets ruined and not the couch!! I told her to keep it.
I always have fun with my sister! She's coming up this weekend too! So is my daughter... we're going to have a grand time!

Really I mostly loved the songs '5 Years' and 'It Ain't Easy'. David Bowie is such an artist, I'm more a fan of his energy and style than I am of his music. I always liked Rebel Rebel too.
I'm on dial-up now, so it might be awhile till that friggin video loads up. The bar has filled up about 1/4 of an inch so far. Gawd dial-up is a pain!!! I've watched him light his cig about 3 times now hoping that would speed it up, but I think it slows it down instead! Thanks for the link anyway. I have to say one more time how much it sucks to have to wait an hour to watch a youtube video!!!!!!!
I actually wrote this last night but my connection was so bad I couldn't even get it to post! It is quite a bit better today so I will let the video load while I 'winterize' my house.

Hope you have a great party with your sister, daughter and the missing items!
David Bowie is a gorgeous being and an even more hypnotizing voice ! I must confess I haven't really listened much to the song Ziggy Stardust but Life on Mars, Queen B*tch, Rebel Rebel, Under Pressure, Starman and Space Oddity are on the top of my playlist.
There's this Brazilian musician (and actor) who sings some Bowie songs. I knew about him when I watched Life Aquatic (one of my favorite movies of all time). Here's a youtube link to a video of him singing Life on Mars in his language.

I have used it a few times. My husband seems too do it alot more than me I think just because doesn't want to have to find it himself. My oldest daughter does the same thing i'll tell her to go get something and it would be her and her sister bedroom and she go and walk back out and tell me she couldn't find it.

Boyfriend does the same thing and I've actually started telling him about his "mouth search" method. And when I told him that, I've become more aware and I try to stop myself if I do it so as not to have him tell me the same thing. So, lovemygirls, I guess it's safe to say that you must be your family's "finder" of things. What do you tell your husband and girls if they say they couldn't find something?

I find myself doing that all the time.
My children and partner also do it to me. I usually end up searching for the stuff myself because i get so fed up of them asking "Where is it".
As for hiding stuff i put things in a "safe place" then can never find them again.
You can also guarantee that the item i am looking for and am so convinced that i put it down in a certain place is actually somewhere completely different.

We don't think it's too bad when we're doing it but if we're the ones at the receiving end of too many "where is it, I can't find it" sentences, it does get annoying. I think I'm organized but there are times that I just can't remember where I put some of my stuff. I always look for them in places where they should go but they're not there. Thanks, littleone.

My kids do most of the time..are they getting it from me, maybe because I sometimes have the habit.
I'm trying to correct it though because I don't want my kids to do the same. The practice is just a waste of time and energy so it should be eliminated.

Don't we all do this? It is hard because it is just too easy for us to start doing this without even thinking about it especially if we are in a hurry. Thanks mjmlagat.

Hello, rkrish... Don't you just wish we have a very organized storages space in the hallway by the door. We could put everything we need there for the next day so we won't waste a lot of time searching for things that we should have prepared last night so as not to be late. Thanks!
