Was my response in the process of unsubscibing to a freecycle group.I was a member to this group for several weeks, and haven't even had a chance to actually use it. I kept noticing the majority of the group e-mails were from the moderator-owner All complaints, here are 2 examples #(1)"ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS- I WILL NO LONGER APPROVE MULTIPLE MESSAGES PUT EVERYTHING IN ONE POST ANYTHING ELSE WON'T BE APPROVED I HAVE WARNED EVERYONE NOW IT'S TIME TO TAKE A STAND IF YOU WANT YOUR MESSAGES APPROVED THIS IS HOW TO GET THEM THAT WAY IF YOU CONTINUE I WILL NOT APPROVE ANY MESSAGES FROM YOU. THANKS YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE." GROUP OWNER lwolf1959 Sat.,oct. 18,2008, 2:21am #(2)"TO ALL MEMBERS- IF YOUR SETTINGS ARE SET TO NO E-MAILS YOU'RE WASTING MY TIME.I HAVE SPENT THE LAST 30 MINUTES GETTING RID OF THOSE BOUNCING AND THAT DON'T WANT ANY E-MAILS FROM THE GROUP IF THATS THE WAY YOU WANT YOUR SETTINGS . PLEASE QUIT WASTING OUR TIME LEAVE THE GROUP OR I WILL FIND YOU AND YOU WILL BE GONE. THANKS IF WE GET DOWN TO LESS THAN 100 MEMBERS I WON'T HAVE ANY CHOICES BUT TO DELETE THE GROUP THAT'S ALL." GROUP OWNER lwolf1959 After reading these messages I instantly e-mailed the moderator-owner this. I don't give a crap what you think you own or what you think you are controlling. Her is 1 less member thanks to your inability to manage this group, stupidity, and lack of respect to your members.Without members you don't have a group! If evrybody would do like me and let you know the truth about your group, unsubscribe, and report your misuse of this of the site to the proper autorities. We wouldn't have people like you polluting this world with crap like yours. Sincerely one less member, should be every member less. This guy seems to be some kind of control freak lunatic. Or is it me just blowing things out of proportion and over exaggerating the situation? What do you think with me or against? Either is ok, I'm over it now. Thank You!

Is this a yahoo freecycle group? I am in several different area freecycle groups on yahoo and I like it. I have been a member for quite awhile now and have been able to give and receive some nice stuff that way. I know each area group has it's own moderators, so maybe try a different group in a neighboring area. Most of the groups I am in often have the same postings because other members are also in the same area groups. I also know each moderator has his/her own way of doing things that work with their personal schedules. In the groups I am in, people use both methods of posting their items, individual emails for each item or listing them all in a single email as long as it isn't too long for the system to handle.
I think that this particular group owner sounds pretty rude and maybe shouldn't be the moderator/owner. There is a lot of work involved in being a moderator of these groups, however. Maybe on his end of things, group members might have not been following group guidelines and he is just getting fed up with it all.

Thanks for your comments, yes it is a yahoo group. I am a member of 2 other freecycle groups that are alot better. This one was little over the edge with the moderators comments probably from being overwhelmed by the job.

Yeh, they probably thought it would be a fun thing to do and then found out that the job is bigger than they thought it was and now don't know how to handle it. Whatever the reason, it doesn't call for being rude and that email sounded pretty rude.

I'm in a freecycle group, I like ours but our two moderators have a hard time with it too, for different reasons though, apparently a few people keep posting like a wishlist of stuff anybody might have laying around, not junk they are specific about stuff like anyone with a go kart or something like that, its like...seriously... what on earth are they thinking? we are here to find new life for objects, not to make money off other peoples stuff.. to keep stuff out of landfills, what we get wont necasarily be the nicest :P

I get all kinds of email but I don't let it bother me. I don't take anything too seriously anyway. Congratulations on your efforts. Cheers!!!

I appreciate your comments, and I try not to let these e-mails bother me, sometimes they do though, hope to hear from you again later.

I'm not a member of any freecycle groups, but I know it is a not an easy job to moderate a group even when all the members are helpful and compliant. To moderate a group like that takes a very well organized, congenial person, and this moderator doesn't seem to be either. I don't think I'd have been quite as blunt as you were, (unless I was just having a "rant" day) but I definitely wouldn't have remained in the group.
