It is a lot cheaper to make your own clothing, though the trick is that you have to know how to make your own clothing. I wish I knew how to make my clothing or I would, I will continue to just buy it because I know that I can't design the type of clothing that I like to wear. It's a good skill to have so you are very lucky if you know how, it comes in handy when money is tight and you really need clothes. I have bought cloth with the intention to make things before, but I quit because it is so frustrating... Happy mylotting and have a great day or night.

I wish I knew how to sew better. It was hard finding a pair of jeans that fit my daughter good. So, I ended up buying a little bit larger size that she could comfortable move around in. Unfortuntenly, that meant I had to hem the legs. Something so simple was so difficult. They are already starting to fall apart after only a few wears and washes.

I have no choice but to buy clothes because I don't know how to make my own! But I guess its cheaper if you made your own dress or clothes because you don't have to pay for the labor or designer. I hope one day I can learn how to sew my own clothes.

I don't make clothes for me, but I sometimes make my daughter (who is 7 months) little dresses. I don't really think its cheaper (and if it is, not by much). By the time you buy the pattern, material, thread, any other extras that go with it, and put the time into making it, you could just go to Walmart or JCPenney and buy a clearance dress. But because I enjoy sewing sometimes, I will make her something every now & then... but not because its cheaper that way.

well at least you can sew if you need too because some people can,t sew and have to buy their clothes.and if push come to a shove and you didn,t have money to buy clothes you still can make your children clothes if need be.and thats wonderful and a blessing.

i love to sew my own clothes. i particularly like making dresses and skirts. my favorite are the old Victorian style of dresses. Some things are cheaper to make yourself but other things are cheaper to buy at the store (like bathing suits, jogging pants, t-shirts). the fancier clothes like dresses are cheaper to make yourself. an old-style victorian style dress i can make for about $100 - $150 canadian dollars. if i were to buy that kind of dress in the store it would be close to $1,000 canadian dollars.

Where I live it is far cheaper to buy clothes than it is to make your own. Plus, I just don't have the time or the skills to make my own clothes. Occasionally, I do buy used clothes instead of new though if I am low on cash.

they have some pretty cloth out there you just have to look and see what available and what you would want to make something out of it.i like diseeky blouses they are simple to make and the pattern is easy to cut out basicly it,s just the back, front and back facing and front facing and it,s done.you have a blouse go buy it out the store it,s about 60 bucks.

I have alwasy wanted to learn how to sew, I can do repairs like buttons and small holes, things like that but I don't know much else. My mother used to sew a lot, she was a seemstress for several years and often made dresses for my sister, I always thoguh it would be neat to make an outft of my own sometime but never really took the time to learn.

at least you can do something in the sewing field some people can,t do that sew can be very hard to learn depending on what you want to learn first first about sewing can be tricky.that was good your mom knew how to sew it saved her money over the years because dresses are expensive and can be very costly.

I guess it depends. Now that competition is stiff in the market, there are many shops selling clothes at a relatively cheap price and they can look as good as the more expensive and branded counterpart. I could have learnt how to sew from my mother, but I guess I wasn't interested in it. It requires interest, patience and determination to make your own clothes. I know that in the olden days, they used to buy cloths in large quantities and everyone in the family uses the same fabric for their clothes. It's very useful if you have a large family. And taht's how they save money then.

that what they do in africa buy one piece of cloth and make the whole tribe cloth with same cloth but different styles you have to have a passion for sewing i feel because it takes patience to be able to sew.
