Well I grew up around cooking my whole life. My Grandmother was always cooking or baking something. She used to teach me how to make dumplings & homade biscuts...Sadly I don't recall any of it now though because I was so little. But I do recall standing in a chair & looking over the table wide eyed watching her cut perfect dumpling strips from homeade dough. And I watched her make peach cobbler, jellies & jams. I used to help shell peas & shuck corn when I was little also. My mom also let me help in the kitchen alot when I was growing up. So I guess that's why I can't really recall when I "learned to cook" or recall the first ever meal I prepared all on my own" I love cooking though, I watch food network as much as possible & I have alot of recipe books. I also look around online for recipes too. I also tend to experiment alot with my cooking, lol. But hey my fiance' loves my cooking so I guess I'm doing ok. I'm not the best in the world at cooking meats so I'll have to drag him into the kitchen to test everything. I can't fry an egg to save my life & as much as I LOVE pancakes everytime I cook those the first half come out half burnt, lol. It just takes practice. Experiment, watch food network if you can or some type of cooking shows on TV, buy some cookbooks & you'll be a great cook in no time!! :-)

Hi, quarvalsharess, I have sent a friend's request to you, do accept it. Thanks for replying to my query on "Is it really genuine?'. While going through your profile, I came across the cooking problem of yours and thought of helping you. I too, was a working lady before marriage and knew very little about cooking. Then I tried out a few recipes, which are in the blog http://recipesforhometaste.blogspot.com They are easy to cook and the do's and don'ts as well are there in it, which helps us avoid mistakes. May be this blog helps you. Wish you a delicious cooking. May be your husband starts licking his fingers after his meals. I have learnt quite a lot from the recipes in that blog.

my mom trained us on cooking since we are young. so at the age of 15 i can already cook something good. when i got married i didnt have the hard time learning to cook even a new recipe is not that hard for me to learn for i know the basics already. now my children are all teens and they know how to cook too. i also have a discussion about my 14 years old daugther cooking something special. take a look please http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1743446.aspx. my suggestion for you is read a lot from the net on how to pick the right things and the fresh ones. read a lot and you will learn a lot. make the simple ones first andtake it one small step at a time.

Get you a easy to read cookbook, one that has simple recipes in it, like for things like meat loaf and roast, easy things that you can start with. It takes time unless you have always cooked with your mother. Even after manyyyyyyyyyy years of cooking there are just sometimes when i can't get things like pancakes or fish to come out right. Just somedays nothing goes right. Cooking takes a bit of patience and as you go along it will get easier, I can't fry an egg without breaking the yolk and I been doing it for 40 years, there just seems to be some that can jump right in and cook and then there are some of us I think has to be in the mood to really cook a good meal. But if you ask relatives and friends you can get help to learn, don't get frustrated it will come.

Thank you so much for your reply.. I know, I didn't know that I cannot whip the batter for the pancake.. And with all of the replies and the advices that I've received, I read, I watched more cooking and I made a pretty okay batch of pancakes the other day. :) Well, thanks for your support and advise. :) Have a great day and god bless!

It really helps to know cooking. I of course learnt only after marriage. But if u know how to cook its definitely a lot simpler. Watch some cookery shows, magazines and online sites with recipes and videos and you would pick up soon. It would be nice trying out a recipe or two occasionally. try sites like http://www.ifood.tv they have a lot of videos so u can see just how to cook the dish right from the beginning to the end.

I am not a good cook, but I have learned alot from the shows. Check out the cooking channel. Or I follow the directions on the back of some of the boxes. They are easy to follow. Or see if some of your friends can give you some good easy recipes.

I learned by trial and error over the last few years..Many times I had to run out and get a pizza when my masterpiece came out more like a piece of you know what lol.. The more comfortable I became in my kitchen the more I would try new things. Now I consider myself a fairly good cook and my husband loves my cooking. As others have suggested cooking shows are great to watch and give you lots of idea. I also watch people cook recipes on youtube. You can search a specific recipe and watch them make it if its been uploaded.. We actually look back and laugh about some of my dinner disasters.. Good luck and I am sure you will get the hang of it..Like anything else, practice makes perfect!

Watch some cooking shows, they'll show you the techniques to make it easier. Follow recipes exacly how they are, then once you've got the feel of it you can make your own changes to them. It's all trial and error in the beginning, not everything will taste great, just try to have fun and relax!
