Puppy digging himself in deep trouble!!

My sister came to stay with me while relocating to the area..She brought along her new puppy.. fun, fun...but what are big sisters for!! Anyway, he's an adorable 5 month old Black Labrador and I have two older Labs and love the breed.. But oh wow is he a ball of energy... We are having one big issue with him that I luckily didnt have with my own dogs and I am not quite sure how to deal with it.. He loves to dig holes in my backyard...It's becoming a mess out there not to mention a danger to my lil' ole ankles..I've already tripped into 2 of his holes..No matter how many of them I cover up, he finds a new spot to dig!! My once green grassy backyard is now looking more like a dirty brown mess..This itself causes a new problem...Now all 3 dogs are tracking dirt into the house (btw I have light carpet through-out) What a mess!!We tell him no and take him inside when we catch him but this doesn't seem to deter him at all... Worst yet, now he has one of my dogs copying his behavior...I understand it is part of a dog's natural instinct to dig but are there any clever ideas how to remedy this problem??
