What If Obama Didn't Write "Dreams From My Father"?

Would that change the way that you thought about him at all? A lot of people say Obama seems very intelligent in his speeches and that's why they want to vote for him. While a lot of politicians have ghostwriters, they admit to it. Obama says that he wrote "Dreams From My Father" which I haven't read yet, but it is supposed to be a really great book. Yet there is no evidence that Obama is actually a skilled writer. To the contrary, he doesn't seem particularly good at writing. If you'd like to learn more about this topic, I recommend reading this article: http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/10/who_wrote_dreams_from_my_fathe_1.html I realize all politicians lie a lot, but I think that's pretty disappointing if a politician can't even admit they didn't really write a book. No one really looks down on ghostwriters so I don't see the reason for lying here. Of course, you could also argue that he really did write it I suppose. But for the purpose of this debate, try to imagine that he did not write the book.

I read the article and it is overwhelming. It is funny that his campaign criticized Gov. Palin for not writing her convention speech, which almost no politician does anymore, even Senator Obama has a speech writer. This article if true goes right to his credibility and character. He claims that he and Bill Ayers were just casual acquaintances. IF you read his wife's senior paper you can understand why they attended Rev Wrights church and why they stayed 20 years. This was another paper they tried to keep from the public. I would like to see some of his works from college and law school. To answer your question if he has said from the beginning that he had help with the book I would have no problem but to claim it as your own and deny a connection with Bill Ayers makes one wonder what else is not being truthful with the American people?

Rev Wrights church is perhaps the most disturbing thing related to Obama for me. I don't see how anyone can stay in that church and it disturbs me that he had no problem staying so long. I wouldn't have a problem with it either if Obama just admitted from the start that someone else wrote the book. A lot of celebrities have ghostwriters too and it doesn't bother me. And I don't care if politicians write their own speeches, so long as they actually agreed to the points they are talking about. But that is wrong if Obama can get away with lying to the American people.

I must be duh, did you see the "great" speech from his wife that couldn't take her eyes off the script she was reading for more than 2 seconds? She did deliver it well, but she was reading off the board what someone else wrote, just as they all are.

I would make a horrible politician. I can give a good speech, but my reading skills are horrible. I don't even get what is supposedly so great about Obama's speeches. I've never heard anything great yet.

Thanks for this discussion. Very interesting article! His last line of the article is chillingly accurate, I fear.
