A woman in Japan suffering a brain haemorrhage while about to give birth died after being turned away by eight hospitals, prompting anger over Japan's strained medical system. http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20081022/world-news/woman-dies-after-8-hospitals-turn-her-away Don't you think that this is obscene?

I am surprised that this things till happen in a country as advance as Japan. I thought this only happens in third world countries like mine. I have known many cases like in this in my place but this is the first time I heard that it happened in a first world country.

That is really a sad case. How can people be so inhumane just for the sake of following certain procedures and to give en excuse about not having enough doctors is simply the lamest excuse that I have ever heard especially from a rich country such as, Japan. Aren't hospitals built to help and save people in the first place? Isn't that is their main principal? Nowadays may hospitals are privatized as the cost pf providing health care has gone beyond the ability of some government to handle. Privatization means that those hospitals are there mainly to make profit so that investors and shareholders can be paid and as a result most common people can no longer afford quality health care. As in this case, may be they have shortages of doctors and specialists since those doctors may have left and go to work for the private hospitals so that they can earn more money. How I wish life was as simple as it used to be...

That is just horrible to hear about. My is hospitals so strict like that. They can be cold hearted sometimes. It is things like this that make me glad I live in the United States. It might not be the best place to live but apparently it is better then some places.

This is a travesty and Japan or any country has a right to be upset under these circumstances. I feel for the family and my condolences are with them. This should never happen to anyone. No person should be turned away from getting medical care.

ronaldinu hi I read that and was dumbfounded. with all of japans technical skills and they cannot care for pregnant women and let them just die. this is certainly obscent. where does their sense of values lie? is medicine just a business now and they dont care about the health or life of the patients at all? This is just unbelievable.I thought we had it tough here in the US where medical costs are so high, but we dont turne away p eople. I am shocked that Japan is so behind in this, have the doctors got so money hungry that they will not care for those less fortunate?I had thought Japan was more up and coming than this, this is just deplorable to me.

Thia is a sad story and it is sad to know that help cant be offered because of not enough docs or help. makes you wonder if the prob will be fixed and i wish someone would of atleast tried to help her sooner . waited too long and wish the outcome could of been better .

This is indeed obscene, and we are facing the same health care problems in Australia. Recently, a woman lost her baby in a public hospital toilet as they were too busy to deal with her and there were no beds. The staff in our hospitals are fantastic - but our health service is underfunded and ailing badly. Many hospitals are facing closure and financial woes, and it's hard to get doctors to remote areas. It seems our country isn't the only one with problems.

Hi ronaldinu, I think this is beyond insane and absurd! With all their money and all their brilliance and inventions they don't have enough doctors??? That is the craziest thing that I have heard yet! They have a huge population, are one of the wealthiest places in the world and yet they have no doctors? I just find this to be unbelievable. Why? I have never heard this before about the Japan. If this is the case then why aren't they doing something about it? Why are they allowing so many of their people to die without the proper care? You would think that a place with such a large population and such brillant people would know better? I really found this to be shocking! I had no idea that this was the case! Did you?
