A simple question

I'm not complaining by any means, and I Can understand where it might be easy to accidentally click the wrong icon whilst starting a discussion, but I was just wondering why people put discussions in the wrong category?
For instance my fiance just saw a discussion on eye color in the category of pizza. The question was "what's your eye color?" and well I was being sarcastic, and told my fiance "Dark Pepperoni".
If your knew that's fine I can understand that, if you speak a different language I can also understand that, but if your just too lazy to find the right discussion category and you know you have it. CTRL F brings up the find feature.
Just a friendly tip, no harm meant, and hopefully no harm done.

Ha ha ha ha, that must be the funniest one i have heard of. I also have viewed bad choices of interest selected when posting a discussion but that simple is the "best" of what i found until now. I can't really tell you why some people don't choose the right category, i guess either they don't care, or if they are beginners they just got here and all they do is try to post, post, post.

My fiance says the one who posted the discussion about pizza had a few thousand posts so I don't think it's that this person is knew. I mean, getting the category wrong, everyone's categories although may be the same, are in different orders from when they added them. I will sometimes go to the "Start a new discussion" and see that questions and answers have moved up or down the list accordingly.
It's amusing to say the least, to see people doing that!

i understand what you mean.. maybe they just dont know how to categorize or something...hehehe maybe they think it's okay to just post any topic in just any category.. they should understand first why mylot categorizes everything.. that's to make us find topics easily, to make it more convenient for us.. but instead of it becoming convenient.. a little funny.. but sometimes it gets too annoying too..:)

It is funny though, I will admit. I think it's amusing to find them like that every once in a while but when it continues on you can't help but wonder why they continue to do so. Especially if you instruct the same person over and over again. I appreciate the response and I hope that you have a wonderful and equally as lovely day.

One person that I chat with said that she noticed this too and asked the person who posted it. This other person said that they had posted a discussion in the right place but got no responses. She posted it in the other place and got responses. People tend to respond the things that yell out to them--lol Like the eyecolor in Pizza! Happy Mylotting

That is true but you would think it would be flagged for abuse, especially when it's almost as if she is trying to game the system. I appreciate the response.

lol yeah i think it would come from being lazy, that topic was probably just one of the first to pop up and instead of looking for the right one put it under that one, lol but that would also limit the responses the person is going to get and i have no idea why they would put it under that catagory, lol.

I know that atleast for me the arrangement of the icons for "start a new discussion" seems to change a lot. Therefore I use the Find Feature, if they don't use that and look through it a few times, I can understand where they may get discouraged or upset and just post it in whatever. I know that my fiance has tried to find a discussion topic that way but he has asked me to find it and I usually go to the find feature and look for it for him. I appreciate the response.

hi
It's really very much annoying. And your suggestion is very much useful. And certainly those who make such thing will learn how to quickly find out right interest group. Yes, i agree, no harm meant just a friendly good suggestion.

i think its most probably by mistake. And some people do not know how to categorize them. Like whenever i start a discussion there is a option of general discussions and favorite discussion which I have in my list. So i think people just dont know how to categorize them in general discussion.

Oh I know what you are talking about and I totally forgot about that. I suppose people don't notice that as it's so small, but I can understand where they would not. Then again mylot discourages the use of that category. I appreciate the response. I hope that you have a wonderful and equally as lovely day.

I have no isea why people do this..You would think they would know better..I am assuming that the people that do this is not talking the language and or does not realize how to do things on mylot...I cannot think of any other reason...It seems rather ignorant to put eye color under pizza...

It may be ignorance but I am sure in some cases it's a mistake and unintentional. Some of the discussions I see under this category are from people who appear to have a good grasp on English so in those cases I assume immaturity if not a mistake. I appreciate the response and I hope that you have a wonderful day.

A lot of people don't understand how to use categories and tags. It's the same with keywords, which is really the same as tags. If you don't know what they're supposed to do, you'll either skip them or just put down whatever you can think of. I see the same thing with blog posts, and writing sites. I don't think it's mostly due to laziness.

I mean I can understand not understanding something, I give people the benefit for that. I mean, you know not everything is self explanatory and with everything being a different, it's cool. I see some people on here who do it have to 1000 or so posts though, so I would hope they'd get the hang of it by then.

hi somecowgirl I think a lotof people who are struggling
with English as their second language foul up here as they 'might not understand all the words, but they should get some friend'who is more savy in English to help out here. For myself if it more or less is a topic that would conceiveably belong in life or world I just put it there, of course if it had to do with food, itgoes in food, or cosmetics or whatever.but sometimes its hard to find a categorey that fits your discussion so you have to find something that seems to fit your topic.

That is very true that at some points it is hard to find a discussion category that will fit your own discussion. Most of the time when that happens I tend to put it in questions and answers as that is one of the topics I think is a more generalized topic. I appreciate the response, and agree that there should be a buddy to help with English when things are un interpretable for the non native speakers.

That is another idea as to why they do this. I know mistakes can be made and I accept that. I hadn't actually thought of that as I know I myself have browsed through topics while an idea has popped up . I appreciate the response! I hope you have a wonderful and lovely day.

I often wondered that too, usually I comment if something is being posted in the wrong section or interest, what does it have to do with this and that ? I presume some mylotters are just too lazy to check on the appropriateness for their topics, they just have to choose whatever it is and doesnt even care if it is relevant to the discussion or not. A mistake once could be tolerable however there are a few whom I did noticed that too, a disappointment sometimes if you would assess. Maybe we have to ask them next time why is it so? or maybe mylot needs a new way of designing the whole thing ? Just a wild imagination. lol. Have a great day ~!

well if mylot designed it in a different way someone would complain. Not necessarily in a bad way but you know. I suppose those that do that can just be disregarded, atleast by me. I appreciate the response.

I think some people are just too lazy to be bothered to go through the catagories and find the right one. They just pick the first one that comes up. Some discussions could go in a couple of catagories so sometimes people genuinely do not know which catagory to put their discussion in. I can understand that you might want to put in a funny answer if it is in the wrong catagory.

Well if I do do that it is only to be funny and then I ask if they were aware it was in the wrong category or I might say that it is. I appreciate the response.
