The Office: Can YOU stay fit there?

As we all know for some people the office is a place to sit in a chair for 8-10 hours a day, stare into a screen, smoke every break and eat the most pathetic excuses for food that one can find, the more processed and overpriced, the better.
To top it all off, of course there's also plenty of bad instant coffee, for the win :D
Health freaks' are usually met with ridicule by the smokers' and coffee drinkers' crews, and you may have seen how any attempts at keeping a good diet will never last more than a week.
Can something be done ?
I for one have embarked months ago on a campaign of saying NO to this sort of 'lifestyle', and a big NO for good. A little change every day. After some time of keeping at it, my ways of fighting the system are now as follows:
- lunch breaks have been renamed and baptised as: TRAINING BREAKS. Generally I go down in the underground parking and run, or shoot a youtube video, or both :D
- no coffee, never. Instead, I brought Yerba Mate tea (energising, exactly like coffee, with no side-effects, yet full of good stuff) and other teas. No Coke, Mountain Dew and all that junk either. No sugar, for the win :)1
- good food, cooked, plenty of it, much cheaper on the long run(from an actual supermarket) than the usual office crap. Maybe a good Chinese soup when enough of us decide to order Chinese. No pizza, lame old sandwiches, chips and crackers
- Protein Bars - whenever I need sweet, I feel hungry, have no good food around, I go for a bar. I do have at least 4 Protein Bars on me at all times. Just in case. Maybe I don't need them but if I do they're always there. IF I'm in a hurry, IF there's nothing good around, I choose the backup food, not my office :) - again, MUCH cheaper on the long run
- Abs. ANY chair without handles, and 5-10 minutes in a private space, you can do some abs exercises in. 5-10 mins is all you need to get your heart rate and metabolism up, and it will STAY up for hours, burning fat as you work instead of gathering more :D
- smoking - my profound disgust and pity for tobacco smokers keeps me inventive with my spare time at work. Yes, I do smoke some other stuff at home, maybe 2-3 times a month, but it's done properly, strong and from a bong, a few lungfuls of smoke raise the spirit on powerful wings and colors, not like the daily dose of death my colleagues inhale each day, each break, while they should move and stretch and unwind.
What are your ways of fighting the system ? I'm sure there are many more, I for one am always looking for new ideas on this
Peace :)

i dont work on an office but i can say that you can still stay fit even you work in an area like that. i work as a singer and even i keep myself healthy the sorrounding is not that healthy. specially the smoking crowd. it is always your choice what food to eat and what to drink. i like shooting a video as a way to run off your desires or to keep you away from the office during breaks.

aye, good to hear you sing, I love jobs that involve artistic expression :D
I was saying that especially in Office jobs there's that office mentality, that a lot of the time drags people down. I'm hoping to rally some people and start a mutiny in the ranks, against that sort of unhealthy thinking and behavior :)
You know what I mean right ? You pull out the fattest largest slimiest pizza, french fries oozing in burned oil, any fast food or poison of that sort, people dont say a thing. You take out some muesli, or a good fresh salad, a healthy milkshake, people look at you like you're the weirdest thing thye've seen all week :P

I no longer bother 'fighting the system', since I discovered that good health has more to do with my attitude and beliefs than it has to do with what goes into my body. I smoke cigs and pot, and I drink coffee and eat sugar... but I also drink a lot of fresh juice that I have made myself with my juicer. I do not sit on my a$$ all day, I get plenty of exercise in the fresh air, and I also do yoga and spend some time meditating everyday, but more importantly I ensure that I am not harboring beliefs that do not serve me.
But I admire your routine!

Yes indeed, its all about the exercise, moving, and free, flexible thinking
btw I went to your profile page to add you as a friend, and says there you're female, and an amazing 56 years of age :)
throws me WAY off my trail, since from your writing I had figured you out to be a young lad just like me :P
Anyway welcome to the crew :)

Wow, i think you covered mostof them and i agree on just about everyone of them.
At my work is so much junk food, you could live for weeks without ever leaving the building.
I been there 5 years and gained about 20 pounds.
Now i stay away from the stuff, I quit smoking about 4 month ago.
But i still have my coffee. I do drink more water than i used to, so i'm trying to do better.

hey there :)
sad to hear about them unwelcome 20 pounds, hope you find a fun way to get rid of em soon enough. If you like coffee stick with it, if ever you look for a replacement, start reading a bit about Yerba Mate tea, it's unlike most teas out there, and they drink it instead of coffee in large areas of South America. burns fat by itself too ;)
