Lovesick? A real illness

I often hear people saying that they are lovesick. I am wondering whether there is such an illness in the medical term. I know of a case where a man was caught for stalking his frieghtened neighbor. He was so lovesick as he claimed and was arrested for breaking into the home of the woman he wrongly believed was in love with him. He was transferred from jail to mental hospital and it was learned he was epiletic. His fits got worse as his love grew. He was put on stronger epilesy drugs and his blood vessels were repaired, so blood flowed normally to the brain. This not only ended his seizures but cured his lovesickness well. He no longer suffers from romantic delusions and hasn't stalked his neighbor since.
What I know of is people who has fallen in love and do not receive response from the other party will be sick at heart and that is what to my understanding is lovesick. What do you understand by this lovesick or have you yourself experienced a one sided love that drag you down to be sick?

ouch nt hearbreak...but yah when my ffrend cheated on me ...bak politics...i felt so down n sick..it realy difficult to deal with these feeling..
nop i dont know its something related to body cells..i think its related to bad experiance we get form poeple ssometime

i thought of the same thing when they say love sick...for me it was when i experience break ups...involving third parties..the fights..that makes me feel so sick that i don't feel like eating and cant sleep well..it affects my health all the time i experienced that..but i didn't know that the term love sick can really mean something...
i had known someone who got sick but not to the point of stalking the person..just that he wont eat he wont sleep and he needed to see a psychiatrist and take depression pills to make him feel better everyday...

Just miss coming to this post of mine. Love sick is really an emotional upset over a broken relationship or break up with the person who really mean to you. I know everybody does experience this once in their lifetime and some who cannot handle it will eventually end up insane.

Hi zandi, I guess it is possible to feel sick when you
are in love and things are not going the way that you
would like them to. I remember when I had problems with
someone that I was dating and things were not going well
I would feel sick and wouldn't be able to eat or sleep
so I guess you could call that a form of being love sick.
But what you were describing is a bit more serious then
lovesick. That guy was mentally ill what he did was alot
different than acting lovesick. Stalking someone is not
a form of lovesickness it is a serious offense that
could have gotten him some serious jail time. Lovesickness
is just a term that people use kind of like I described
my feelings were.
