Are you afraid of the dark (or someone in your house)?

I prefer the dark when I'm sleeping. Although I can sleep when the lights are on. I definitely prefer the dark though. My son had a small problem of having to have a light on, despite every time he would get scolded for leaving the light on in his room or turning the light on in the middle of the night. My daughters are more like me, and don't like to sleep with lights on? How is the light situation at your house?

I am very much afraid of the dark. When I sleep alone and the lights are off. I imagine lots of things specially ghost, like someone will grab my hand or my feet. I can't sleep alone without the lights on, but it's too lightly. So I use dim light instead of the light bulb just to have some light in my room so that it would not be dark. But if I have someone beside me I can sleep without lights and I don't want any lights, only if I am with someone in my bed.

I'm not afraid of the dark but I find it distracting to sleep in total darkness because when it's totally dark in my bedroom ( or any dark room I sleep in) I often see things, I'm not sure if you would call them ghost, more like shadow people or masses that are darker then the actual room and they move around a lot and I find it hard to sleep because they are distracting and annoying. I guess this does bother me a bit because I can't sleep in complete darkness because of this. But my husband like's it super dark and we often sleep in different rooms sometimes because my beaded nightlight curtains bothers him sometimes when he sleeps. Yeah i know, people think I'm nuts now because I see dark things that move in the dark..LOL

I can't sleep with the lights on, so I prefer it dark, my kids, also can't sleep with the ligths on but they don't want total darkness, so sometimes I leave the PC on and just turn it off when they are asleep.

I like it to be totally dark when I go to sleep, but we have to have the lights on because of the children. I am not afraid of the dark, but if I have to go downstairs for something in the middle of the night I am a nervous wreck, I do not know why but for some reason that scares me a lot! I have to turn every light on as I go downstairs.

Hi I sleep with all lights off. When children were kids, initially they were afraid of darkness. But slowly, I made it an habit. Now all are grown up and no one likes to sleep with lights on.

I don't like the dark too much, but I'm not afraid of it! I just like the tv being on or the radio! Feel a lil more comfortable, soothing! My son is afraid of the dark, but he's easing out of it! It's funny, he used to turn the light in the hallway on just to go to the bathroom and turn the bathroom light on to use it during the day...lol! Yeah, but hey, they're adults still petrified of the dark! Taripre$

no, i'm not afraid of the dark and sleep with the lights off and just a night light on to help me find my way should i need to get up in the middle of the night. there were just a few days years ago when i got a little scared of the dark. this was after watching The Ring and i'd imagine meeting Sadako in the dark.

no i am not afraid of dark and even i prefer sleeping with light switched off. there is nothing as such as ghost as it all comes because of fear which need to be avoided by us we need to tell the kids that there is nothing as such and make them bold from now itself of it ll land up if fear and they ll be definitely afraid of darkness hence practice them little with darkness too rather not only with lights switched on. Thanks Maru

i dont want light on while sleeping. its not must. my cousin sister always hate dark. but later she used to it. the main reason why little children hate dark is by seeing horror movie and parents or frds always give a bad impression of dark like ghost etc....

I am not afraid of the dark. When all the lights are off at night at home and I need to go the wash room, I can get there without turning on the lights. That's at home but at somebody else's, I don't think I can do that. I can not sleep with the lights on and I just learned that when I I was growing up because as a little kid, I always fight with my older sister whom I share a bedroom because I was not able to sleep without the lights. I think it can be learned or maybe, I had adjusted to the way my sisters did.

i used to be afraid when i was young, but not anymore. but i still do sleep with the lights on, coz i read books before going to sleep and when im about to sleep i dont think i still have the energy to turn off the lights since the switches are a bit farther from the bed.

Everyone in my family sleep with the lights off. I have been trained to it. I am used to it, though I do get scared in the dark when I was younger back then. Plus, its better to switch off the lights because it would save electricity. No point wasting it when it is not being used for anything productive. Also, I am guessing that your children are not tired enough to go to bed. When they go to bed, they can't sleep and they think of the weirdest of things and get themselves all scared up. People who are just plain tired would fall asleep immediately without caring any less of the darkness or anything scary.

I am somtimes afaid of the dark because of all the horror movies i watch. i dont think its the dark its-self but the fact that you cant see if someone is there. like when you have that feeling that someones watching you, thats the creepyest feeling to have in the dark or when your at home alone. Im not afraid of the dark, well unless I just read a scary book or watched a scary movie. However my 13 year old son used to be terrified of the dark so we had to buy him a nightlight. He stopped using it last year. However my 17 year old daughter is scared of the dark but only when she is outside. She refuses to go outside unless she is with someone. Even from our door to the vehicle.

I can sleep with the lights on but I usually turn them off. I am not afraid of the dark as such but I do not like not being able to see clearly. I hate driving at night for the same reason. I like to be able to see clearly when I open my eyes, especially if I hear noises. I have been in a room so dark that no natural light got in to break it up and I found it scary because you open your eyes and you cannot see anything. Normally there is always some light and your eyes can adjust enough to see outlines but when you cannot see anything you have to try and feel your way around and you just don't know what is there.

I am not afraid of the dark, especially in my house. I have lived here so long I can go anywhere in the house and find just about anything even when it is completely dark. In fact I kind of like it when it is dark in the house. My son however is a little afraid of the dark. I am not sure when it happened or how but all of a sudden he wouldn't go in rooms unless we turned the light on. maybe his mom said something but who knows. I didn't teach him that because I am perfectly ok with having the lights off.

I am afraid of the dark when i was a kid and now I am afraid of the lights when i sleep. I may not prefer the dark because it always let my feel mysterious and dangerous. Most kids fear the unknown creture in the dark, especially when they sleep in their own bedroom. I remember the first time i slept in my bedroom with the lights off, feeling there was somethings under my bed or in my closet. It was so horrible that i had to turn on the light, but it got another problem. On the wall near my bed there was a shadow which seemed like a huge spider. I was so scared that i could not make myself out of quilt for quite a minute. I've been afraid of spider since then, though that was not a real spider. Your daughters are brave! I had slept with lights on till i went to junior middle school. Though i am not afraid of the dark anymore and sleep with lights off, the terrible experience still makes me sleep not so well even now.
