Well, I guess I can see both sides of this. I live in a rural area, so I don't really have to worry about someone stealing my stuff. UPS visits me a lot. He does knock, but then again I am usually expecting him and hear the truck drive up so he doesn't even have to knock. If the door isn't locked (which it usually isn't) and I'm not there, he just opens the door and leaves it on my kitchen floor. I don't mind that. It's actually pretty common here. UPS doesn't like to leave stuff outside in the winter, which is very long and harsh. This is one reason why I think it's important to have your tracking number when you order stuff. I track it online and know when it will get here so I know what day they will be here and I can always hear the truck pulling up if I'm awake. I also can usually guess about what time he will be there. One thing I feel I should point out is that if UPS says they delivered a package and you did not get it, the merchant has a responsibility to replace or refund the product. I have had this happen to me when UPS delivered a package to a wrong address when a sub driver was driving my normal driver's route.

Yeah, it's not a big deal. He just opens the door real quick and puts it right down on the floor infront of the door or on this desk I have next to the door. It's not like he stands there looking around my house or anything lol. Most of the time, I'm not even down there to notice him.

That's why I have everything delivered to my work. Since I'm the one unloading the truck & signing for it I know it'll be safe ( as safe as anything delivered by Ure Packge Squashed is ). Since when did marking FRAGILE on a package mean the same thing as KICK ME?

If you contact the company shipping the item to you you can get a tracking #. You can then got to the UPS site & track that #s status. That should give you a good idea ( within a day ) of when it'll be delivered.

The UPS guy here is not signature is require will know and just leave the package. If not signature is required, it doesn't bother me much. However, what gets me is FedEx (haven't had this happen w/UPS yet) leaving packages that do require a signature. We had this happen with 2 expensive PCs!

I agree with you on that...my bathroom is close to the back door.....one day I just sit down with the door open since I live alone and someone gives one knock and opens the door.......it's the ups man.....today I arrived home and found a big package on the front steps.....I never use the front door but only check for the mail....it's been raining here for two days....all my shipment could have gotten soaked. They could at least hand it to you or give you some indication they have left a package!

I think they still knock when they deliver for my dad. He gets a lot of metal for machinery delivered. I am not a fan of UPS for personal deliver though because of their package handling. I went to school in Missouri for one year, and when I packed up to go back home, I purchased a brand new big cardboard box, real heavy duty one, for like $12-something, it was outrageous. Anyway, that box arrived at my house, in Oregon, so beat up I could not even believe it. It looked like it had been dropped, thrown, tossed ect, over and over. On the other hand, a day later I packed and shipped what didn't fit in that box into another used box a friend of mine gave me that she didn't need. I shipped that FedEx because they were open later that day and UPS was closed. That USED box came to my house looking almost like it did when I shipped it, very few marks. After that experience, I am never using UPS again, I feel extremely lucky the contents of my UPS box were not destroyed. Fortunately, the things that could have broken were folded in with heavy bedding and towels. That is certainly the only reason they made it. Newspaper would never have been sufficient.

Funny you should post this.... Today I received my first Avon delivery. Four boxes of Avon and two of them were crushed on two corners. What if there was glass in there, UPS! And, just like they did to you, they left it on my front porch. Boy UPS really sucks these days. Fed Ex is far superior. I received a package delivered by them last month. They knocked, waited for me to answer and offered to carry the package inside the door. In comparing these companies Fed Ex is far superior!

Yeah, I've noticed that too. The last time I ordered something and needed it delivered, I didn't even get a tracking number, and I didn't know it would be there until a couple of days later when there was a notice on the door. What was I supposed to do, wait for a week and a half for an unknown? Geez!

We live in a secured four story apartment building and all parcels are delivered to our door. They knock and if no-one is home, they leave it at the door. We haven't lost a parcel since we moved in two years ago. I have good neighbors too and we look out for each other including our mail.

Yes I have medicine delivered and I never know it is out by the door till I open the door and go out. One day they set it down below the A/C unit and water was dripping on it. I don't think it would make any difference to call and complain, apparently in their last contract it says you don't have to make sure the package is delivered to the person. Used to be if you wasn't home or didn't answer the door they left a note to call and set a time for them to deliver it, not any more just throw it down like you said and leave. I could not prove I did not get my medicine and they will not release any more till the next month.

that is the reason i REFUSE to get my meds delivered!! i am on so many different types and some of them have a high street value so its not like they would be opening it up and seeing birth control or something not appealing... and we both would be screwed for a whole month if it was stolen and if we tried to get more we would look like junkies or like we have been selling it etc.. you would think with meds they would have to hand it right to you but i guess not!!

I thought that with deliver services, you have to sign a form to indicate that you have receive the item before they can leave? Don't the delivery man have to account for the receiver's receipt of the item before they can go? I mean, if there is no one home? They will just leave the item there on the porch? I mean, even if there is insurance on the item in the event it is lost, who is the company going to believe? The deliver man that works for them or the victim of the loss? If I were in your shoes, I would make a formal complaint to the company and ensure that they do something about it. If not, you will write a letter to the newspapers to shame them on such practices!

So it is largely a case of he says, she says in the event a product is not received by the intended recipient? Then in this case, the delivery man can just go home with a package and claim that he already delivered it and no one can fault him for it. No?

you have to specify that you want a signature when sending it which most places you order from store wise do not.. so if they dont have to have it they just drop it and run.. and as far as who they will believe who knows.. it just depends i guess on who can prove what but the chances of winning i think are slim since you know the driver isnt gonna wanna admit he is just dropping packages off without letting people know

Shoot girl when they go to my parents house, they honk there horn repeatedly, as does the mail man. Okay people get out of your vehicles and go to the dang door. Yes there are three dogs running around the yard but none of the bite, its the little one in the house you have to watch out for. But i digress. So which would you rather have, the rude horn blasts, or the drop and run. Okay maybe in your neighborhood i would want the horn blasts.

UPS does knock here- even if they see someone in the living room. I had a package delivered today, and he could see me, but he knocked. So, I guess it all depends on where you live and the deliverer of that package. Some knock, and some won't. If you think your property is at risk, contact UPS and complain. Perhaps they'll contact the nearest UPS near you and do something. It doesn't hurt to ask, and it might give you a piece of mind.

I don't have any problems with them where I am. I would call UPS or go to the website and report it. You're right it could get stolen and I'm surprised it hasn't yet. Here is a funny story. I was reading an article the other day about women voting for the sexiest men in uniform and guess who won? LOL I couldn't believe it but yep you got it UPS men in there all brown shorts! ROFL I don't remeber them passing out ballots here! LOL Good Luck!
