My poor little cat!

My poor little 2 and a half year old male cat, Max, (Siamese cross) is at the vets right now having his manly parts removed and I'm very sad! Not only do I miss the little poppet already, even though he has only been away for a few hours, but I didn't want to have him neutered, but a couple of unfortunate incidents regarding him mistaking my lounge carpet for a litter tray has meant that the time has come to stop his natural instincts!
Hopefully, I can pick him up in a couple of hours and snuggle him up in bed with me at home, but to be honest, I'm not sure what to expect. Will he be in pain for a couple of hours or days? Will it change his attitude or personality? I've not been told that much about it to be honest and I'm rather worried about he little mite!
Hopefully, the neutering will stop the urination on my carpets, but what if it doesn't? Any cat lovers that can give me some advice would be greatly appreciated as I have a feeling that my Vet's may be rubbish and I should probably have asked a few more questions!
Many thanks and lets all wish well to my little Max! xxx

I think you will have to give him some space when he gets home. He will probably be sleepy. I think by tonight you will have your regular kitty back. He will probably be happier and more comfortable and less likely to run away, now that he has been neutered. My male cat is a delight. He has no inappropriate behaviors and doesnt even scratch furniture.

Thanks for your comment, it's reassuring! I hope he's ok. I'm like an overprotective mother when it comes to him! My hubby thinks it's sad!
I'll let you all know how he gets on!

Just called Vet to see if all is ok for me to pick him up and all is fine. They said that they may have had to keep him him overnight, with him being an older ish cat, but I can pick him up in 45 mins! Woo hoo!
Just thought I'd update!

He's home now, all groggy and he's not allowed to eat for a few hours but he's cool, and I am so glad he's home. I just hope he stops urinating now!

I have 2 cats one male and one female that my husband and I adopted when they were 9weeks old. When they were 6months old we got them both fixed to avoid "accidental deliveries" and my one thing I was told by the vet I went to is that once they start marking there territory whether you get them fixed or not it may not stop them especially in males. We were able to stop it before it started. Some cats do stop after being fixed and some dont it depends on your cat.
One thing youcan expect is that your cat will be very groggy when you bring him home the best thing you can do is make his food, water, and litter box very accessable to him. He is going to be hurting and not able to move very well so bring his necessities to him for at least 2 days or untill you see him moving arround like he normally would. Also try not to let him jump up and down from the furniture to avoid him splitting out his stitches.
My Precious was stubborn and still had to jump arround and I was constantely worried and checking him to make shure his stitches were still ok. In about a week your baby will be back to normal.
