I use my home server to scan my network at night when I am asleep, because I have 5 computers on my home network I have to keep it secure and clean, but kids do occasionally download the odd junk that includes spyware/malware, which does get tedious at times, but it has to be done. and with regards to antivirus, I personally use avast as it's free, powerful and uses less resources than norton, plus the fact that the virus database is updated daily :)

What you are doin is what everybody should do to prevent network crashes or system failures, unfortunately few people bother to do so. Cheers!

i don't... i don't think we have to go to such an extent to protect my computer... as long as you have a reliable anti-virus, that should be fine...

There is no need to do so much. Scanning it takes lots of time. So better you install Norton Antivirus with its regular updates and a good firewall like Zone Alarm. This allows viruses to hardly get installed on your machine.... So its ok even if u scan ur machine 1ce in a week or 2......

I used to scan my computer once a week earlier but now i dont need any scanning as i have a good antivirus installed on my computer and it alerts me as soon as i get any potentially unwanted programs or viruses even the minute ones instantly and dont let them enter into my computer.I use McAfee Virus Scan 10 and it has come out to be a true saver for my computer.

Believe my husband has it set up to auto run a scan on all or our computers every night. yes being on the internet and downloading is a good way to attract viruses. You need to have a good firewall.

My AV is set to run a scan everyday. I did an in-depth analysis the other day and was clean. If you're careful with your internet activity, you shouldn't have to worry too much about viruses. --- --- --- "I certainly think Britney Spears is the devil. The way she projects herself and the fact that she is so obviously vacuous. I think it's such a shame that she became so influential to very small children." -- MORRISSEY --- --- ---

Don't sweat the small stuff. - dog and chick.
I scan mine every night before I shut it down to go too bed, I have fire walls and other anti-virus scans and if NOT done every night your PC WILL shut down, and people can get your information. So be smart and scan every night and you won't have problems. People who don't scan every night end up sending things to people they don't want. Like if I had a virus and didn't scan, then sent it to you, then you would get it.

my computer does reg. scannings on it's own once or twice a day and will do it's own virus check. Then it will let me know if I have one and if so, if it has taken care of it for me, or what is going on.
