Why The Government Will Not Let Felons Vote?

I know, a few felons that have gotten in trouble they have regreted and weren't even there fault. But the government won't let them be human being and vote. It is extremely unfair. If, they are out of jail or prison? They should be able to vote. Every vote counts. What happen to this being a free country? Or have we gone back to the dark ages? I would love to hear your voice on this topic.
