Would you go for Hot Oil treatment or Hair Relax?

I am planning to have my hair relaxed, but i'm skeptical since i have heard that hair relaxing could damage your hair. Is it true that it will make our hair dry? Have you tried it? That's why i'm considering of getting into hot oil treatment instead. But i've already tried hot oil before, and it seemed like nothing happened afterwards. It's like i'm just wasting my money for nothing. I just console myself that since it is just a treatment, you can't expect a drastic effect afterwards but surely there is something good happening within the strands of my hair. Am i right with that? Please share your opinion. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance for sharing..
