Do you keep old photographs?

I love to keep photographs. I even have my photos when I was in grades school. I love looking at them and remembering the times with old friends and classmates. I also keep photos of my friends whom I seldom see now. I think they are just like treasure of the past. Do you also keep old photographs? Does old photo gives you joy from the past?

there was once a quote saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. That is why it is difficult to neglect pictures especially old ones because they show what experiences you have already been through. Given the latest technologies in our world, it is not as difficult as before to take pictures or videos which contain our memories.

Hello, Karamellized! I know that quote you're saying, it's a song called "If" by Bread. "If a picture paints a thousand words, Then why can't I paint you, The words will never show, The you I've come to know!" Thanks for the response, and happy myLotting!

I have old photos from not only my childhood, but some dating back into the 1800's of people from my husband's family. We love looking at the similarity in appearances in his family, but the names of the individuals are not recorded on the back of them so we have no idea who they are. An important point to anyone with old photos. There are memories in those faces and places, good times and bad, happy stories and sad. On our 25th anniversary our children put tgether a photo album of our years together which included baby pics from the 1950's right through to that day. There is a wealth of history in the photos, but be sure to record any info on the backs of them for future reference.

I was quite snap happy when I was using film cameras exclusively, before digital photography caught on..consequently I have boxes and boxes of old photos of trips, college, and family going back over 20 years now..I haven't printed as many digital photos as I did of film ones, but digital ones can be transferred by email which is much more convenient than hauling a bagfull of photos around to show family and friends!

I have a military-style footlocker, that is filled with old photographs. A once or twice a year, my daughter and I get into it. She loves looking at all the old photos and asking me question about our family. Since she grew up without grandparents, they passed before she was born or when she was a baby, she loves to hear stories about them from her father and me. It's always been the best way for me to keep her linked to her roots.

Yes I do. Actually, my mother used to be the one to keep the family's old photographs then she handed it to me a few years ago when I asked her if I can keep them. That was the time when I started scrapbooking. I promised her that I will take care of those photos because most of them are older than me. I bought a box from the bookstore to keep them and I sorted them out for easy retrieval. Lately, my mother gave me some more photos which she kept separately from the ones she gave me before and I was terrified to see some of them damaged because they were wet. I really felt sad because some of those photos include my elder sister's class pictures during her elementary years. I decided to buy a scanner and slowly but surely, I am trying to scan old photos to ensure that I have a duplicate copy in case the same thing will happen.

Wow, I am so impressed with the way you take care of the pictures. And I also understand the feeling when we see that some of the pictures are torn or wasted. As if a piece of the past has been torn also. Imagine, you can't get back to that moment without that picture. It's the only thing that make you remember the good, if not the best moments of our childhood, or even our sisters' and parent's childhood. Thanks for the response, Iamcdy! Happy posting!

Yes, we do have old photographs kept. We even have a photograph when my grandmother was around 5years old! hehehe.. It's nice to get to see them once in a while, but the trouble with photos is that you don't really know who the other people is, it's only the owners who know. Not to mention that we have so many photographs that we haven't had time and money to buy photoalbums for them and we just keep them in a safe for safekeeping. So there's no way really that these photos are presented to other people (which we hoped we could). Yes, it gives me joy in the past knowing how my parents looked and how I look too. It's fun to see old photos of friends and groups too. Most especially old photos of someone or people close to your heart. Whew.. remind me of so many things! =)

I agree with you, Laydee! Sometimes, it is hard to maintain the photos. We really have to keep them in albums so that the color will not fade and to keep them from crumples. We can also put them in a cute boxes if we can't file them up in an album. This will also be nice.

Hi friends, I too love photographs, new and old. It's too bad you don't live close to me. I am just starting a scrapbooking business. I put all of your pictures in a scrapbook with fancy backgrounds and themes. I love doing this. Cheers, Cheryl

Yes, I do keep old photos, I have quite a few that are over 50 years old.. My husband and I have lost both of our parents but we still have pictures of all of them.. Some of the pictures were taken when they were younger, my mother showed her gorgeous legs sitting on the hood of one of the first cars to be made, a model T, I think, although I am not completely sure.. I have been married for 40 years and I have pictures of the entire time that we have been married.. My son married almost a year ago and I have about 1,200 pictures of the wedding on my computer that I am painstakingly going through.. It is so hard to get rid of any pictures, but in this new age, it is just as hard to delete one of them off the computer also.. When my son was going to school, I always bought the package of 1,000 pictures, you know, the biggest package that you could buy and now I have tons of duplicates and don't have the heart to throw any of them away.. I have been scrapbooking this past year and have been enjoying many trips down memory lane with all of the pictures that I have now.. I also now have many CD's that have pictures on them.. I love to also look at old photos of strangers and wonder who they were and what their lives were like.. You are right, they are treasures of the past..

Of course I also do, like most of us keep old photos. It means a lot of happiness seeing old friends, classmates, sweethearts, too. I still have some photos of my ex-wife, just to let my son remember her mom. My wife here also have some of her ex's to remind her children of their father.

I always thought everybody kept pictures. At one time my grandma was giving us some of her old photos. I got a bunch from when i was baby and small child as well as some of family members. I love pictures and have kept everyone. Lately i have been scaning my old ones so i can save them on a CD. That way they can be printed out for any family that wants a copy. I have some really cool double jewel cases too. When each CD-+RW gets full i can save it on a CD-+R that can not be erased. I looks so cool to see them on computer screen. I can watch a slide show.

I have 8 bulging photo albums and several boxes of loose pictures waiting to be organized into albums. I have a few pictures dating back to when my mother was a young woman before she married. I have a couple of my father that are even older than that. In the oldest picture, he is wearing a dress and has long curls. Around the turn of the century and before, boys wore dresses until they were potty trained. The next oldest was taken right after his first haircut. He is wearing bib overalls. I have a few pictures of my childhood and lots and lots of pictures of our children and grandchildren.

Perhaps I should have clarified my statement about the turn of the century. I was speaking of the early 1900s. My parents were born in 1904.

Yes, I keep hundreds of photographs and have scanned most of them and have them on my computer. Now and again it is great to look back and see where I have been and what I have been doing and can almost feel as if those days are back again. The mind is very powerful in this respect.

I do keep my old photographs but I have very few of them as I don't like to take photographs so much. But I agree with you,old photographs were the good old days we had with our family and friends, and we should always keep them in good condition. I had very few old photographs with me,it was a regret actually, but I do keep all the pretty, wonderful memories in my head. Lol.

You betcha I do. I have lots of old pictures of myself and my family. But my other siblings have even more pictures of when I was younger and pictures of family members I haven't either met or only met when I was too small to remember them as an adult. I love looking at old photos comparing them to how I look now or how a good friend looks now or even my spouse and most of all my own children. We let our children try to guess who was who when they were first born. Majority of the time they can guess right, but my youngest two, my son (5) and my youngest daughter (2) looked like identical twins as they were babies. A lot of the pictures we have of family and places we've been are very fun, fun, fun memories, we seldom have a picture that has a bad memory attached to it.
